For RAGTIME, director Mark Edward Smith and his crew have crafted one of the most appealing and stately sets I've seen at the Garden Theatre. The blocking is clever and thoughtful - important when you have a big ensemble cast on a small stage - and the lighting and costumes are on point. The vaudeville era must be the Garden's charm, because this is certainly the best staging I've seen here since the last season opener, Gypsy. But whether you've seen RAGTIME or not, it's the cast here that is really going to wow you...

A testament to the power of love and music takes center stage as Mad Cow Theatre opens Once, the multi-award-winning musical. From the very first note, Once draws you in and never lets go. This emotionally captivating musical is the only show to have won an Oscar, a Grammy, an Olivier Award, and a Tony. The musical - book by Enda Walsh; music and lyrics by Glenn Hansard and Marketa Irglova - is based on John Carney's Academy Award-winning indie film of the same name.

Sometimes you don't need a lavish design to make a musical about Vegas play well. I mean, it would have definitely brought another level to Vintage Theatre's current musical production of Honeymoon in Vegas, but the cast is what gives this one its dazzle.
