Naked Shakespeare, Acorn Productions' acting company dedicated to presenting the works of the Bard in non-traditional venues without sets, lights, and costumes, presents 'Poems of Passion' a 50-minute show comprising a series of Shakespeare's sonnets and love poems by many other authors spanning the years from Sappho to Carol Ann Duffy. This fully-staged show runs approximately 50 minutes, and touches on all the different aspects of love, including infatuation, courtship, lust, marriage, and separation.

Toulmin Foundation. From among the 112 eligible applicants, an independent adjudication panel selected eight composers. One of the biggest downers perpetrated by American culture is the characterization of Labor Day weekend as the 'unofficial end of summer.' But given what has passed for cabaret entertainment-at least the shows I was able to attend--since the 'unofficial start of summer' on Memorial Day weekend, the end of summer can't come soon enough. But my dismay over the hours lost watching average shows this season was tempered a bit by the pride and joy I felt watching the June performances of three strikingly attractive and talented 30ish brunettes with powerhouse voices-- Jackie Kristel, Karen Gross and Jodi Beck, who all staged entertaining shows as spring was turning to summer.
