Naked Shakespeare, Acorn Productions' acting company dedicated to presenting the works of the Bard in non-traditional venues without sets, lights, and costumes, presents "Poems of Passion" a 50-minute show comprising a series of Shakespeare's sonnets and love poems by many other authors spanning the years from Sappho to Carol Ann Duffy. This fully-staged show runs approximately 50 minutes, and touches on all the different aspects of love, including infatuation, courtship, lust, marriage, and separation.

"Poems of Passion" represents Naked Shakespeare's first public performance since last May's "Hamlet," and includes the debut of many new members of the Ensemble who have been training together since last September. The performance takes place at the Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth on Wednesday, February 11th at 7pm and is free and open to the public.

For more information, including a complete lists of the poems included in "Poems of Passion," visit the company's website at www.acorn-productions.org.

This special Valentine's-themed show features 11 of Shakespeare's sonnets and 24 poems by other poets, brought to life by an ensemble of 14 actors. As with all Naked Shakespeare presentations, the selections have been updated, appearing in a modern context to increase the accessibility of the text selections and make them more dramatic.

Some of the better-known pieces in "Poems of Passion" include "A Red, Red, Rose," by Robert Burns, "Sonnet II," by Edna St. Vincent Millay, "Sonnet 43, from the Portuguese," by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and "There is a Garden in her Face," by Thomas Campion. Other selections include poems by both Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, a Neruda poem in the original Spanish, and a musical version of the Robert Burns' poem John Anderson My Jo."

The evening is directed by Acorn's Producing Director, Michael Levine who returns to Acorn after a sabbatical last spring. During the show, actors will mingle in and around the audience, delivering sonnets and poems conversationally to one another and the audience in unexpected ways that will allow listeners to find new meaning in the text.
