Bela Fleck & More Set for NY Banjo Summit at Jorgensen, 10/12

Seven of the world's greatest five-string banjo players will stop Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Jorgensen Center on the UConn campus to hold a "New York Banjo Summit" that ranges from solos and duets to full-tilt banjo blowouts. These experts have united for a limited East Coast tour to perform with an acoustic band in conventional and unexpected ways and covering the traditional bluegrass and old-time country to the more progressive jazz, classical and rock genres. The show starts at 8 p.m.

MacArthur Fellow Chris Thile to Play Columbus' Southern Theatre, 10/14

Mandolin virtuoso and composer Chris Thile, a multiple-Grammy Award winner and a MacArthur Fellow, has long been known as an audacious improviser and a tireless collaborator whose work has incorporated bluegrass, folk, rock, jazz, and classical elements. Besides his brilliant bandmates in Punch Brothers, his fellow travelers have also included pianist Brad Mehldau, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, guitarist Michael Daves, and double bassist/composer Edgar Meyer, among others. On this new program, he draws from his new Bach recording, while also exploring his own compositions and contemporary music.

Alonzo King LINES Ballet to Make Harris Center Debut, 9/27

Alonzo King LINES Ballet makes its Harris Center debut, performing Meyer, a new work to a score by Edgar Meyer, and Resin. With his bold, abstract poetry of movement, Alonzo King explores a new understanding of what dance can be. Since 1982, Alonzo King's original choreography has been brought to life by the extraordinary LINES Ballet dancers, in performances critics have called, 'Stunning, fierce and evocative.'

Mandolin Player Chris Thile to Perform at Zankel Hall, 10/22

On Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, Carnegie Hall presents mandolin virtuoso, composer, and vocalist, Chris Thile-of the ensemble Punch Brothers-in a program that features Bach's sonatas and partitas for solo violin played on the mandolin, along with original compositions and contemporary music. Thile's recording of three works by Bach-Sonata No. 1 in G minor, Partita No. 1 in B minor, and Sonata No. 2 in A minor-was recently released on his recording Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1 on Nonesuch Records. The record was produced by Thile's friend, mentor, and frequent collaborator, the double bassist and composer Edgar Meyer.

Nashville Symphony and Nashville Musicians Union Reach Tentative Agreement

The Nashville Musicians Association, AFM Local 257 and the Nashville Symphony Association have reached a tentative agreement regarding the orchestra musicians' contract. The agreement is pending ratification by the members of the orchestra. No further comments or details will be released until the ratification process has been successfully completed.

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance announced today the exciting performances that will celebrate its first decade. The Theater's inaugural performance was held on November 8, 2003. Today, nearly 10 years later, the Harris will reflect on its past, present, and future with the 2013-2014 Harris Theater Presents series. The season is comprised of important premieres and debuts, along with returning favorites. TSO 2012/13 Season Finale includes Gershwin, Joshua Bell, Yuja Wang and More

For Rhapsody in Blue (June 1 & 2), one of the most popular American concert works, conductor Bramwell Tovey will take to the piano to play Gershwin's beloved jazz-infused Piano Concerto. Before leading the orchestra in Elgar's Enigma Variations- a series of charming musical sketches about the composer's closest friends -Tovey, an eloquent host, will share some of the unsolved mysteries of the work's "secret" contents. The June 2nd performance is at the George Weston Recital Hall, Toronto Centre for the Arts and also features Bernstein's "Overture" to Candide.

Nashville Symphony Spring Fashion Show Highlights Karen Elson & LEAGUES

Karen Elson and LEAGUES will perform at the Symphony Spring Fashion Show, presented by Lexus of Nashville on April 9 at Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Music City's biggest annual runway show, the event will be emceed by CMT personality Allison DeMarcus and will feature Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2013 Collection. All funds raised will go to support the educational and artistic programs of the Nashville Symphony.

National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Presents Concert Season 2013

Season after season, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), India's premier arts and culture institution, presents the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), performing magnificent orchestral works by different composers, as well as music rarely, or never before heard, in Mumbai. The new season that takes place in February 2013 – 13, 17, 19 and 22 – has a plethora of musical greats in store. This season will witness three varied concerts ranging from an all-Beethoven programme to the Indian premiere of a triple concerto - Melody of Rhythm – jointly composed by legendary artistes, Béla Fleck (banjo), Edgar Meyer (double bass) and Zakir Hussian (tabla). SOI Resident Conductor Zane Dalal will be conducting all the concerts this season.

Nashville Symphony announced Monique Lhuillier as the featured designer for the Symphony Spring Fashion Show, taking place April 9, 2013, at Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Co-chaired by Elizabeth Broyhill and Elizabeth Dennis, the show will preview Lhuillier's Fall 2013 Collection and will be emceed by television personality Allison DeMarcus. A cocktail party will take place from 6-6:30 p.m., and the Schermerhorn's Laura Turner Concert Hall will be transformed into an elegant designer runway for the show, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a stylish soirée.
