Now in its 16th season, Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook will continue to expand its scope celebrating the best in American singing and songwriting. New this year, the opening night concert will befree, in the David Rubenstein Atrium, on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. 'Live From Lincoln Center,' the Emmy Award-winning program broadcast nationally on PBS stations, will shoot four of the first week's American Songbook concerts in The Allen Room: by James Naughton, Lawrence Brownlee, Jason Isbell, and Patina Miller. These performances will be broadcast nationally beginning in Spring 2014. In addition, American Songbook concerts taking place in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse at Lincoln Center will be live-streamed via http://watch.lincolncenter.org.

Irish Chamber Orchestra Welcomes Flute Virtuoso Sir James Galway at UConn Today

Legendary flute virtuoso Sir James Galway will celebrate the 35th anniversary of his U.S. debut with a tour stop at Jorgensen with the Irish Chamber Orchestra today, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. On this 14-city tour, Galway will appear with acclaimed ICO conductor JoAnn Falletta, and his wife and frequent duet partner, Lady Jeanne Galway, also an accomplished flutist. Alain Frogley, professor of music history at UConn, will give insights about the program at the 2:15 p.m. Concert Talk before the Oct. 27 program.

River North Dance Chicago to Present AUTUMN PASSIONS at Harris Theater, 11/15-17

The critically acclaimed River North Dance Chicago (RNDC) leaps into fall with 'Autumn Passions,' their November 15 - 17 Fall Engagement at the Harris Theater (205 E. Randolph Dr.). Introducing a company premiere by Adam Barruch and two world premieres by Kevin Iega Jeff and Ashley Roland, the company performs a program filled with stunning athleticism and innovative choreography. Garth Fagan's love of strong women is front and center in "No Evidence of Failure," which receives its world premiere when Garth Fagan Dance returns to The Joyce Theater, November 12-17. The two-program season also features the world premiere of "Gin," marking Norwood Pennewell's third work for the company. The season's revivals include Fagan's 1983 classic "Easter Freeway Processional" and "Senku," whose music will be played live by concert pianist William Chapman Nyaho. Also slated for Fagan's New York season are sections from last year's hit "Lighthouse/Lightning Rod," as well as Fagan's perennial opener "Prelude: Discipline is Freedom"

Seven of the world's greatest five-string banjo players will stop Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Jorgensen Center on the UConn campus to hold a "New York Banjo Summit" that ranges from solos and duets to full-tilt banjo blowouts. These experts have united for a limited East Coast tour to perform with an acoustic band in conventional and unexpected ways and covering the traditional bluegrass and old-time country to the more progressive jazz, classical and rock genres. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Mandolin virtuoso and composer Chris Thile, a multiple-Grammy Award winner and a MacArthur Fellow, has long been known as an audacious improviser and a tireless collaborator whose work has incorporated bluegrass, folk, rock, jazz, and classical elements. Besides his brilliant bandmates in Punch Brothers, his fellow travelers have also included pianist Brad Mehldau, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, guitarist Michael Daves, and double bassist/composer Edgar Meyer, among others. On this new program, he draws from his new Bach recording, while also exploring his own compositions and contemporary music.
