Violinist Joshua Bell Coming to Jones Hall, 11/5

Violinist Joshua Bell returns to Houston for a recital performance on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at 8 p.m. in Jones Hall, presented by Society for the Performing Arts. Joining Bell on stage will be pianist Alessio Bax.

UW World Series Presents Mark O'Connor & Friends: An Appalachian Christmas at Meany Hall 12/21

Multiple Grammy Award-winning violinist Mark O'Connor returns to his hometown of Seattle for an evening of music from his album, An Appalachian Christmas, Dec. 21. In describing this program of music, O'Connor says: 'Appalachia is the original melting pot of our country featuring more diverse styles of American music than just about anywhere. Growing up in the O'Connor musical household, Christmas time was a wondrous mixture of Christmas carols, fiddling, bluegrass and other traditional American music. And that is the spirit of An Appalachian Christmas.'

The University Musical Society Presents Its October Events, Featuring KISS & CRY and More

The University Musical Society (UMS) continues its 2014-2015 season in October with six must-see performances. The month opens with Kiss & Cry, a stage work by Belgian dance company Charleroi Danses, in the Power Center Friday-Sunday, October 10-12. Two sets of hands serve as the main characters of this narrative, colliding and intertwining in a series of “nano-dances” amidst a delicate, miniature set. The action is filmed live and projected onto a large cinema screen to tell a touching story of love and loss.

Musical Duo Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer to Open Chan Centre Season, 9/16

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is thrilled to open its 2014/15 Chan Centre Presents series with renowned musician/composers Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. The award-winning MacArthur “Genius” Fellows and longtime collaborators will present a high-flying, fast-picking evening of largely original music that blurs boundaries between bluegrass, classical, and pop lyricism.

MacArthur Fellows Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer to Play Meany Hall this Fall

Mandolinist/composer Chris Thile, of Punch Brothers, and bassist/composer Edgar Meyer will team up again in Fall 2014. These two MacArthur Fellows will cross traditional boundaries in a diverse program of largely original music. The duo has collaborated on several critically acclaimed projects, including the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions, a 2008 recording of original compositions (Nonesuch Records) and, most recently, Chris Thile's 2013 solo recording, Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1, produced by Meyer. Their new album, Bass & Mandolin, will be released by Nonesuch on September 9, just prior to the launch of the duo's North American tour.
