The new, off-Broadway production of Rent began previews on, July 14, and opens Thursday, August 11 at New World Stages. The highly anticipated resurrection of the cult classic, written by Jonathan Larson, is being directed by Michael Greif, who directed the show's original off-Broadway and Broadway productions. The creative team includes choreographer Larry Keigwin, music supervisor Tim Weil, set designer Mark Wendland, costume designer Angela Wendt, lighting designer Kevin Adams, sound designer Brian Ronan, and projection designer by Peter Nigrini. Last night at the Waldorf-Astoria, Bette Midler hosted Hulaween 2010, her annual gala to benefit the New York Restoration Project. This year's event honored Senator John Kerry and featured a special performance by Paul Simon, a costume contest judged by Michael Kors and a live auction with Judy Gold.
New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reclaiming and restoring New York City parks, community gardens and open space. In partnership with the City of New York, NYRP is also leading MillionTreesNYC - an initiative to plant and care for one million new trees throughout New York City's five boroughs by 2017. A feature in the New York Times has taken a look at the possible poster designs for the upcoming revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, starring Kelsey Grammar and Douglas Hodge. In attempting to choose a poster for the show, producer Sonia Friedman looked at several possible designs and chose the one she felt best represented the show.

SpotCo founder Drew Hodges weighs in on advertising in a multi-platform world through a heated Presidential election and tough economic times. SpotCo, which represents nearly half of the shows running on Broadway, continually breaks convention with inventive, often irreverent campaigns which help catapult productions such as Rent, Phantom, Chicago, Avenue Q, In the Heights and Xanadu into some of the most successful musicals of all time. The company has represented 62 Tony nominations this year alone, which resulted in 14 Tony wins, including Best Play and Best Musical. Over the past decade SpotCo's shows have won six Pulitzer Prizes, including one this year.
