Tanya Marquardt's STRAY To Receive World Premiere At The Tank

The Tank (Meghan Finn and Rosalind Grush, Artistic Directors) in association with Theatre Conspiracy will present the World Premiere of Stray by Tanya Marquardt (Nocturne (an incomplete and inaccurate account of the love affair between George Sand and Frederic Chopin) at Dixon Place), directed by Mallory Catlett (2014 Obie Award for This Was The End with Restless NYC; member of The Collapsable Hole) at The Tank (312 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues), July 18-28.

Since 2004, director Mallory Catlett has worked across disciplines to expand the boundaries of theater. Through original works with her own company, Restless NYC, and collaborations with some of today's leading artists-composer Mika Karlsson (The Echo Drift), Dread Scott (Decision), Aaron Landsman (City Council Meeting & Perfect City)-Catlett creates theater that The New York Times calls "lurid, feverish and powerful." She has been called a "downtown treasure" by Time Out New York.

United States Artists (USA) is pleased to announce its 2018 USA Fellows. This year, 45 artists and collectives across nine creative disciplines will receive unrestricted $ 50,000 cash awards. The Fellowships honor their creative accomplishments and support their ongoing artistic and professional development, however the recipients choose to spend them.

At key moments in history, artists have reached beyond galleries and museums, using their work as a call to action to create political and social change. Opening December 11, 2015, the Brooklyn Museum's exhibition AGITPROP! explores the legacy and continued power of politically engaged art through more than fifty contemporary projects and artworks from five historical moments of political urgency. AGITPROP! will be on view from December 11, 2015, through August 7, 2016, in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

The Chocolate Factory Presents Remix of UNCLE VANYA, Mallory Catlett's THIS WAS THE END, Now thru 3/5

The Chocolate Factory is pleased to present the world premiere of Catlett's This Was The End, a performance in which four actors in their sixties and seventies attempt each night to get to the end of Uncle Vanya-in a last ditch effort to alter the outcome. In Chekhov's play, Vanya asks, 'What if I live to be 60?' This Was The End performs an answer. It uses the play to pose questions about how memory functions in the formation of the future. The cast features veteran downtown luminaries Black-Eyed Susan (Ridiculous Theater & John Jesurun) as Sonya, Paul Zimet (Living Theater & Talking Band) as Vanya, Jim Himelsbach (OBIE for The Foundry's Talk) as Astrov and Rae C Wright (OBIE for Sustained Excellence with The New York Street Theatre Caravan) as Yelena.
