BWW Reviews: Not Those Kind of Duets - Casebolt and Smith's O(h)

Casebolt and Smith is a duet dance theatre company (made up of Liz Casebolt and my former dance professor, Joel Smith) hailing from sunny Los Angeles. They performed O(h) as part of the 92nd Street Y's Harkness Dance Festival, 'Stripped/Dressed,' curated by fellow choreographer, Doug Varone. A single word (or rather, an exclamation) with befuddling parentheses around the 'h,' O(h) is a work that incites audiences to rethink what they already think they know about dance.

Tickets On Sale for TWELFTH NIGHT at Queens Theatre

Queens Theatre (QT), in conjunction with the acclaimed Aquila Theatre, presents William Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT, an innovative and exciting new production directed by Aquila Theatre Artistic Director, Desiree Sanchez (BAM's Herakles). TWELFTH NIGHT will play 4 performances only at Queens Theatre (14 United Nations Avenue South, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, NY 11368). Performances are Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2pm, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 3pm. Tickets are $42 for Friday?s performance and $49 for Saturday and Sunday performances; Rear seating $25 (for all performances). Tickets are available online at www.queenstheatre.org/shakespeares-twelfth-night or by calling the Box Office at 718-760-0064. Tickets may also be purchased in-person at the Queens Theatre Box Office, Monday 10am to 2pm, Wednesday through Sunday 10am to 6pm. Chicago Opera Theater to Present ORPHEUS & EURIDICE at Welles Park Pool, 12/19-22

Chicago Opera Theater will dive into the pool again for a remount of its highly successful production of Ricky Ian Gordon's Orpheus & Euridice in partnership with the Chicago Park District in collaboration with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events as part of the Classics in the Parks series. Following the sold-out run of four performances at the Eckhart Park Pool in the West Town neighborhood in early November, COT will bring three additional performances to Lincoln Square on December 19, 20, and 22 at the Welles Park Pool. Tickets will once again be free to the public.

Summation Dance Kicks Off DANCING LITERATE Festival Today

Sumi Clements, Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director, Taryn Vander Hoop, co-founders of Summation Dance, announced the dates of their third annual Dancing Literate Festival, today, November 21-23, 2013, featuring performances by emerging companies and choreographers. The successful annual program aims to bridge the gap between the artist and the viewer by offering educational opportunities on the choreographic process and by providing an interactive experience in which the audience is encouraged to engage with dance making firsthand.

Martha Graham Dance Company to Perform at Purchase College's Performing Arts Center, 10/19

Making their first appearance in Purchase since their still-talked-about 2010 performance, the Martha Graham Dance Company will take the stage of the Concert Hall at The Performing Arts Center, Purchase College (SUNY) in Purchase, New York on Saturday, October 19, at 8pm, with a program of classic works choreographed by the legendary Martha Graham as well as pieces that are more recent additions to their repertoire.

BWW Interviews: Stephen Pier - Heart to Hartt

Stephen Pier has achieved a uniquely rich and varied career as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer. His credits as a performer include many years with the Jose Limon Dance Company where the New York press hailed him as '...one of the most gifted dancers on the modern dance scene today.' He went on to become a leading soloist with the Hamburg Ballet in Germany, performing the title roles in John Neumeier's Othello and Saint Matthew's Passion, and creating numerous other major roles during his nine years with the company. As a member of the Royal Danish Ballet for six years, Mr. Pier had the privilege of dancing leading roles in works of Bournonville, Balanchine, MacMillan, Bejart, and collaborating with many of Europe's finest contemporary choreographers.

BAM Kicks Off 34 Events in Opera, Theater, Music and Dance for 2013 Next Wave Festival

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy Of Music, presents the 2013 Next Wave Festival. The festival runs from today, September 17 through December 22 and comprises opera, theater, music, and dance productions in the institution's three mainstage venues: the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, the BAM Harvey Theater, and the BAM Richard B. Fisher Building.
