SUMMER OF LOVE runs through April 17, 2011. The show's creator and writer, Roger Bean will direct. SUMMER OF LOVE is honored to be included in the '11 FESTIVAL OF NEW AMERICAN MUSICALS.
Roger Bean has delighted audiences cross country with The Marvelous Wonderettes, Winter Wonderettes and Life Could Be a Dream. Weaving the 50s, 60s and 70s hits together into a playful scenario is his specialty, and if only Hair had never existed! For, his latest endeavor Summer of Love, now onstage @ the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach has the look, feel and message of Hair : 'Make love not war'! In spite of the comparisons, Summer of Love has its moments... and a dynamite ensemble that moves and grooves.
When it comes to taking a catalog of familiar, era-specific songs, tossing them together with colorful costumes and sets, then weaving an easily digestible story to tie them all together, jukebox musical aficionado Roger Bean has his formula down pat. The man behind The Marvelous Wonderettes, it's holiday-themed sequel The Winter Wonderettes, The Andrews Brothers, and recent crowd-pleaser Life Could Be A Dream is back at it again, this time with a slew of 60's hippie-rock tunes to shape his new staged hits parade SUMMER OF LOVE, which recently had its world premiere at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach as part of the 2011 Festival of New American Musicals. More endearing than daring, the musical continues performances at the Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts in Long Beach through April 17.

When it first premiered on the West End in 1989 and then on Broadway in 1991, Miss Saigon won over critics and public alike with its bold operatic score and absorbing story of the Viet Nam War and its aftermath. Almost twenty years later it is as relevant as ever and Moonlight's stunning production could not be better.
