Last night, July 26, the Town Hall hosted ALL SINGIN' ALL DANCIN,' an exhilarating extravaganza of song and dance directed and choreographed by Jeffrey Denman (YANK!, WHITE CHRISTMAS). Inspired by the legendary Broadway dance of The Astaires, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, Gower Champion, Bob Fosse, and Jerome Robbins, the show consisted of original choreography created exclusively for the concert and was set to some of the greatest show music ever written including 'Slaughter on Tenth Avenue' and 'Cell Block Tango.' I will leave it to you, dear readers, if you decide to take in a performance of Jerry Mayer's Dietrich and Chevalier, to determine for yourselves if it's better off being a play peppered with just a few musical moments or a full-out concert with just a smattering of narrative. As it stands now, the two-act piece with a plot that continually gets halted to present its collection of fifteen musical hits trudges along without much purpose.

Glen Roven, Peter Fitzgerald, and Richard Cohen recently announced the formation of a new CD label, GPR Records, (www.GPRRecords.com), which will record and distribute Broadway, classical, spoken word, and children's music. GPR aims to surprise listeners with recordings that are both unusual and entertaining. Last night on April 4th, the group presented 'Poetic License: 100 Poems by 100 Performers' at The Bowery in celebration of the release of its first recording.
