Over the past few months Creamfields have been dropping name after name for their 2020 lineup, and with festival season just around the corner it turns out they were only just getting started, as the full lineup and arena breakdown now drops for the 4-day August Bank Holiday spectacular.
Rebuild Foundation, the arts, education and cultural development organization committed to transforming urban communities, announced today that Jenn Freeman, acclaimed Chicago-based performance artist otherwise known as Po'Chop, will be the 2020 Chicago Dancemakers Forum Artist in Residence at Rebuild and will offer two unique dance series, featuring a monthly burlesque classes and a burlesque showcase, as well as an artist talk that explores the themes of Blackness and pin-up culture through the lens of the works in the Johnson Publishing Company Library at the Stony Island Arts Bank. Rebuild and Chicago Dancemakers Forum partner to support the residency. Their residency will culminate in December 2020.

The acclaimed Opus Two violin-piano duo returns to Feinstein's/54 Below for an unforgettable 90th birthday tribute to Stephen Sondheim featuring the New York premiere of A Little Night Music: Suite for Violin and Piano and Bernstein's Four Moments from Candide, both arranged by veteran Broadway director Eric Stern, and Somewhere from West Side Story, arr. Raimundo Penaforte. Special guest Broadway vocalist Elena Shaddow will join the duo in Two House Songs: My House, from Peter Pan and Take Care of this House, from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and Sondheim's I Remember, from Evening Primrose, also arranged by Stern. An annual sold-out event that is an exclusive New York musical theater experience, BROADWAY BELTS FOR PFF! featured Broadway stars performing some of their favorite songs and original pieces to benefit the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF). The benefit began as a tribute to Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press theater critic, who died suddenly of pulmonary fibrosis in 2010. Julie Halston, a founding partner of the event, is one of the PFF's leading advocates nationwide and shined as the evening's host (Her Broadway credits include Tootsie, Hairspray, Gypsy, and You Can't Take It With You).
Lebanese-American rapper/singer RIZ LA VIE has announced his new EP, Feed., slated to arrive on May 7 via AWAL. Today, Riz shared the video for the EP's first single “Tesla.” The video is also embedded in the new Tesla Whip video game, which is out now on iOS + Google Play. NYCL Kai has released his Self-titled EP. Over gritty guitars and ruddy lo-fi beats, rapper, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and skater NYCL Kai spits with punk recklessness and delivers an atomic genre-bending hybrid informed by hard-earned street lessons. The 22-year-old started living those lessons as a kid in The Bronx. Residing in a two-story building where his mom served as the landlord, a group of evicted tenants left a bass in an abandoned unit. As if placed in this space by divine intervention, Kai picked it up and taught himself basic chords, writing rudimentary songs throughout middle school.

MorDance, known for its commitment to creating new works that straddle the classical and contemporary ballet vernacular, presents Season Seven, April 3-4 at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. With three world premieres woven together by themes of humanity, an ensemble of eight, joined by composer Polina Nazaykinskaya, pianist Konstantin Soukhovetski and lighting designer Becky Hiesler, will push ballet to its limits with fast-paced bravura, intricate footwork, and scenic innovation. Due in part to the contributions by Nazaykinskaya and Soukhovetski, the April 3rdperformance will open with a proclamation from Governor Cuomo, naming the evening the first State-wide celebratory event to commemorate Russian American History Month in partnership with the Russian American Cultural Heritage Center, Inc.
Royal Family Productions will remount its production of WOMEN ON FIRE: Stories from the Frontlines to accommodate the demand. WOMEN ON FIRE is written, curated, and co-directed by Royal Family artistic director Chris Henry from stories told to her by a group of anonymous women, with choreography and co-direction from Lorna Ventura.
Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre (TMBT), Atlanta's new contemporary ballet company, continues their third year with dance works that showcase their versatile dance technique and storytelling abilities. In March, TMBT presents 'Modern Myths', a double bill including 'Under the Olive Tree' by Tara Lee and 'Horizons' by Heath Gill, both resident choreographers at TMBT.
