AMERICAN IDIOT Begins Berkeley Rep Run 9/4

Yesterday, one day before the first performance of Green Day's American Idiot, Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced that it will extend the show due to record-breaking sales and unprecedented demand for seats. Originally scheduled to close on October 11, this hotly anticipated world premiere has been extended three weeks and will now play through Sunday, November 1.

'IDIOT' Scribes Green Day Nab 3 MTV Video Award Noms

Green Day, whose muti-platinum album AMERICAN IDIOT will premiere in a new stage adaptation September 4th at Berkeley Rep, have been honored with three 2009 MTV Video Music Award nominations. The Bay Area-based rock band's video for '21 Guns' - from their current gold album 21st Century Breakdown - has been nominated in the 'Best Rock Video,' 'Best Cinematography,' and 'Best Direction' categories. Green Day are scheduled to perform at the awards ceremony, which takes place at New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, September 13th.

Today, Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced the cast for its world premiere of American Idiot. Based on the Grammy Award-winning album of the same name, the show features the music of Green Day and the lyrics of its frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. American Idiot is being staged by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, who also collaborated with Armstrong on the story.
