The Brelby Theatre Company located in Historic Downtown Glendale, is thrilled to be bringing the world premiere of Brian Maticic's latest work Depend on Me to the Brelby stage this fall. Maticic will also direct this production, aiming to leave audiences in suspense with a sense of bewilderment.
The Brelby Theatre Company located in Historic Downtown Glendale, will be bringing Shakespeare's classic A Midsummer Night's Dream to audiences this fall.
Depend on Me is feels like a sitcom filmed before a live audience, until just before intermission, when it takes a turn and feels like late M*A*S*H, when they dropped the laugh track and things got dark. There's a surprise ending and much entertainment in the two-act play.

'This story explores a different, darker side of the classic Odd Couple scenario. 'The majority of my adult life has been spent living with roommates in order to afford the cost of an apartment in the new economy' says Maticic.

Devon Mahon is a delightful actor whom I've seen in several performances, including at Brelby in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Unexpected and at B3 in Droppin' Johns. Earlier this week, I reviewed Brelby's production of his first full-lenghth play, Whisper Sweetly.
Droppin' Johns is as shamelessly subversive, as courageously adventurous and as boldly resolute a piece of Feminist Fringe Theatre as any you'll find, anywhere.
Ilana Lydia is an Arizona-based playwright and director. Her new play, Droppin' Johns is produced by B3 Theatre Company and premieres at SIC Sense July 14th and runs just two weekends, closing on the 22nd. The play is clever and shocking, funny and profoundly sad, but reading it didn't leave me crying - I was chuckling and shaking my head.
This is James Beneze's third time on stage with Brelby Theatre Co. He was previously seen as the Rat King in Quest for Claus: the Musical and can be seen in the Shakespeare in the Garden event held at the Japanese Friendship Gardens.
The relationships in unexpected take surprising turns - thus, the title. The story follows a Hero's Journey trajectory, but remains unpredictable, which allows for some marvelous exchanges. There is genuine pathos in the play, however Perovich's skillful construct doesn't allow the fable to be bogged down in sentimentality.
'Taylor is driven by love. He's a romantic and very dramatic,' said Devon Mahon of his character in John Perovich's new play, unexpected, opening at Brelby Theatre Company this Friday. 'The play is about love at one of its greatest points, when it is unexpected,' Mahon continued.
According to Costumer Allison Bauer, John Perovich's new play, unexpected, 'follows a mother and her three daughters as she tries to protect them from the pain and heartache of love. Coupled with a mysterious merchant, a love sick boy next door, a snake-charming girl, and a mysterious flying man, the daughters go on a journey to discover their own truths about love,' she said.
'We are so excited to announce our 10th Season,' said Brelby Artistic Director, Shelby Maticic. 'It's hard to believe that we're already at this point in our company's journey. We have an exciting lineup of 10 shows for our MainStage Season to unveil at the Season Reveal. Ten is the magic number in 2018. There are some really wonderful surprises, and some big changes to our season format to announce. It'll be extra special for those who are in attendance that evening.'
Brelby Theatre Company's Shelby Maticic has directed her company in a breakneck paced, enticing production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. With a book by Rachel Sheinkin and music and lyrics by William Finn, it's a show that could be breathtakingly dreadful, but instead is wildly entertaining.
Costumer Kim See describes Brelby's upcoming Blacklisters as 'disdainful and twisted.' She describes herself as 'thrilled to experiment with dystopian fashion and distressing for costuming.' With a degree in Art Education, she has a strong focus of fiber arts and printmaking, so she says the process of creating full costumes has been a welcomed challenge and opportunity for growth.
