Houston Grand Opera Announces Concert Of Arias 2019 Finalists

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has selected the finalists for the 31st annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias, to be presented in the Wortham Theater Center on February 1, 2019, at 7 p.m. A limited number of general admission tickets for the performance are available for purchase here. The program will also be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube for all to enjoy, inviting viewers to cast their votes for the Online Viewers' Choice Award.
The McCammon Voice Competition Announces The 2018 McCammon Semi-Finalists

The 2018 McCammon Voice Competition judges have chosen the semi-finalists for the eighteenth biennial competition, to be held on March 16, 2018 at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. The finals will be held March 17, 2018 at Bass Performance Hall. This year's competitors are David Araujo, Amanda Blue, Nicolette Book, Ryan Bradford, Rachael Braustein, Kathleen Buccleugh, Chelsea Coyne, Danielle Davis, Peter Scott Drackley, Helen Huang, Hao Hu, Emily Michiko Jensen, Abigail Kempson, Chonghwa Kim, Abigail Levis, Brandon Morales, Elizabeth Moran, Langelihle Mngxati, Chong Yoon Noh, Brittany Nickell, Yulan Piao, Anthony Reed, Michael St. Peter and Andrew Wannigman.

The Baltimore Symphonic Band presents music from Baltimore composers and about the Baltimore experience, in this free concert appropriate for all ages. The program includes a musical tribute to Edgar Allan Poe's 'The Raven,' along with a performance of the poem by Baltimore's own Barry Williams. CCBC President Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis will read the delightful narrations penned by Baltimore poet Ogden Nash to accompany Saint-Saens' whimsical suite Carnival of the Animals. The program will also include tributes to Billie Holiday, Eubie Blake and the Star Spangled Banner.

The Glimmerglass Festival opened its new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! on Saturday, July 8, in Cooperstown, New York. According to B. A. Nilsson of Words and Music, 'It's a glorious, fully committed, high-kicking three hours of joy.' The production runs through August 22, 2017.
CCBC Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant for BALTIMORE STORIES

Community College of Baltimore County is the recipient of a $15,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Given to support Baltimore Stories, CCBC's yearlong series of stories about Baltimore told through dance, music and theater, the funding supports commissioned work by artists who live or have roots in the Baltimore area.

As part of its 2017 season, The Glimmerglass Festival will present the world-premiere hip-hop opera Stomping Grounds, a show written entirely in verse blending hip-hop, spoken word and opera. In May, the production will travel to 11 regional community venues throughout New York State and three in New York City, in performance workshops and discussions hosted by librettist, director and choreographer Paige Hernandez, an acclaimed performer, director, and playwright known for her effective fusion of theater, hip-hop, dance and education.
