Photo Flash: PIPPIN at The Firehouse Theatre

The Firehouse Theatre (2016 BWW Award for Best Theatrical Venue under 500 Seats) in Farmers Branch, TX, unveils their big summer musical of Pippin, by Steven Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson. Pippin was originally directed for the Broadway stage in 1972 by Bob Fosse, and the 2013 Broadway revival earned 4 Tony awards including Best Musical Revival. The Firehouse Theatre will present their summer musical in a Big Top Circus presentation, similar to the style of the Broadway Revival production, including aerial performers, magic tricks, and death defying acts! PIPPIN runs July 19th through August 20th, with show times Wednesday-Saturday at 7:30pm and matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm. HBO to Present New York Latino Film Festival Returns This October

The New York Latino Film Festival (NYLFF), presented by HBO, will make its much-anticipated return to the Big Apple October 11-15, 2017. Unveiling a new logo and website, founder Calixto Chinchilla announced today that submissions for the 13th edition of the iconic film festival are now being accepted through August 4, 2017.

INSECURE and SHOTS FIRED Added to New York's 20th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival

The 20th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival (www.urbanworld.org), presented by REVOLT with founding sponsor HBO, announced additions to its schedule including HBO's 'Insecure' and Fox's 'Shots Fired' that will happen during the anniversary events that will take place from September 21-25, 2016 at Manhattan's AMC Empire 25 on 234 West 42nd Street.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Opens September 9th at Firehouse

Next up - To Kill A Mockingbird - opens September 9th and runs through the 25th, with preview set for September 8th. The novel, written by Harper Lee, was published in 1960. In the play, adapted by Christopher Sergel, Scout, a young girl in a quiet southern town, is about to experience the dramatic events that will affect the rest of her life. She and her brother, Jem, are being raised by their widowed father, Atticus, and by a strongminded housekeeper, Calpurnia. Wide-eyed Scout is fascinated with the sensitively revealed people of her small town, but, from the start, there's a rumble of thunder just under the calm surface of the life there. The Firehouse Theatre is excited to present this cherished but timely tale. 

Regional Premiere: BILLY ELLIOT the Musical at Firehouse Theatre

Next up at The Firehouse Theatre - Billy Elliot the Musical - a regional premiere - opens July 29th and runs through August 14, with preview set for July 28 th . Book and Lyrics by Lee Hall with Music by Elton John - this show has 10 Tony awards, including Best Musical, to its credit! Set in a northern English mining town against the background of the 1984 miners' strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy's struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Based on the international smash-hit film, this show will encourage audiences to BE YOURSELF.

More than 400 guests joined Olympians and stars of stage and screen to show their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students at the annual Point Honors gala the landmark New York Public Library last night. The evening celebrated the accomplishments of Point Foundation's (Point), higher education scholarship recipients. More than $500,000 was raised for Point, the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.

The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts (DECFA) will launch its 1st Jazz Vocal Competition at New York City's 40th Annual 52nd Street Duke Ellington Jazz Festival on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The Competition, which will take place between 1:00 and 4:00 PM in the Performance Area at the southeast corner of 52nd Street and Avenue of Americas,, will feature 26 talented up-and-coming jazz vocalists who will be vying for cash prizes and opportunities to perform at future concerts and musical events presented by the Ellington Center for the Arts. .

Loyola's Jazz Underground Series Continues with Bassist Roland Guerin, 3/29

Roland Guerin, a versatile, in-demand bassist who frequently tours and performs with Allen Toussaint, will continue Loyola University New Orleans' Jazz Underground series with music from his most recent CD, "A Different World," on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Satchmo's, located in the basement of the Danna Student Center on the university's main campus.
