Golden Thread Productions returns with its annual celebration of International Women's Day, What Do the Women Say? on Saturday, March 12, at 8pm at La Peña Cultural Center (3105 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley). This year's program is a celebration of pioneering Bay Area women artists who have built community through their art.
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, San Francisco's adventurous, award-winning theater ensemble Mugwumpin is pleased to announce a series of celebratory performances and special events, including the revival of This is All I Need (2010) and Super:Anti:Reluctant (2006), and the world premiere of Blockbuster Season. Mugwumpin's two remounts will take place at The Costume Shop at A.C.T., today, June 19 - July 13. Blockbuster Season opens in previews at Intersection for the Arts on September 18. Mugwumpin is also proud to announce Luster, a month-long engagement in August with the Asian Art Museum, which has commissioned the company to create a performance installation in collaboration with photographer Pak Han.

Blues for Smoke is an interdisciplinary exhibition that explores a wide range of contemporary art through the lens of the blues and blues aesthetics. Turning to the blues not simply as a musical category but as a field of artistic sensibilities and cultural idioms. Iconoclastic playwright Thomas Bradshaw has emerged as one of the most provocative and original voices in contemporary theater. His most recent play, Job, was produced by the Flea Theater in Fall 2012 and remounted this past January.

Honorable mentions went to playwrights Nastaran Ahmadi, Denmo Ibrahim, Ken Kaisser, Mona Mansour, and Heather Raffo.

The prize, which is granted every other year to an American writer of a Middle Eastern background by a consortium composed of San Francisco's Golden Thread Productions, New York's Lark Play Development Center, and Chicago's Silk Road Theatre Project, comes with a $10,000 commission to write a new play of the author's choice, artistic development support for two years and possible productions at both Silk Road and Golden Thread.
