Annilese Miskimmon Presents Korngold's THE DEAD CITY at The London Coliseum

This March, after making her ENO directorial debut with the gripping new production of the multi-award nominated The Handmaid's Tale in 2022, Annilese Miskimmon (the ENO's Artistic Director) directs the new production of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's The Dead City (Die tote Stadt).

2022 Year in Review: Cheryl Markosky's Best of 2022 - and Picks for 2023!

One of my favourite theatrical moments of the year at Theatre Royal Bath was Into the Woods: a trippy version of Stephen Sondheim's musical, thanks to Terry Gilliam's surreal Monty Python-esque imagination. This mind-bending show deserves space in the West End soon.

Dickie Beau's !SHOWMANISM! Comes to Theatre Royal Bath Next Month

The final commission by Deborah Warner in her inaugural season as Artistic Director of Ustinov Studio will be ¡SHOWMANISM! A Concise Histrionic of Performance, devised and performed by Dickie Beau which will play the Ustinov Studio, Bath from 11 November to 10 December 2022.

Review: DIDO AND AENEAS, Theatre Royal Bath

It's a double first at Theatre Royal Bath with Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. Regarded as England's first opera when initially performed around 1688, it's also the first opera to be performed in the intimate Ustinov Studio.

Review: PHAEDRA/MINOTAUR, Theatre Royal Bath

They say good things come in small packages. This adage certainly applies to Theatre Royal Bath’s larger-than-life double bill of Benjamin Britten’s Phaedra and newly commissioned ballet, Minotaur, in the diminutive Ustinov Studio.

Review: THE TEMPEST, Theatre Royal Bath

What can be better than watching The Tempest on the night when Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spell was finally broken? Surely, it's a good time to reflect on the play's exploration of power, illusion, loss, revenge and redemption.

BWW Review: EUGENE ONEGIN at the Metropolitan Opera

The 2013 production of Tchaikovsky's Pushkin-inspired opera EUGENE ONEGIN has triumphantly returned to the Met. I attended the final dress rehearsal and can attest to the fact that the story of Tatyana's infatuation with, and later rejection of, the eponymous 'hero' is vocally in superb hands. Both singers and orchestra were splendid.

BWW Review: PETER GRIMES, Royal Opera House

There are few operas which, at once, gives some insight into the history of the current UK opera scene, the sexual politics of the 1940s and the darkness within Benjamin Britten’s mind. Peter Grimes does all that and also provides a visceral and heart-rending story, deep in meaning, high in emotion.
