BWW Reviews: CARRIE is a Bloody Good Time

Look up "Broadway Flop" on Google, and Carrie is bound to be the first title to show up. Though the material still is a bit rough around the edges, Austin Theatre Project's staging of Carrie manages to straddle the show's unintentional line between camp and seriousness while finding a compelling story and interesting characters, brought to life by performers who could easily rival many a Broadway star.

Carrie, The Musical - music by Michael Gore, Lyrics by Dean Pitchford, and book by Lawrence D. Cohen - has had an interesting life; one of the most popular movies of all time, one of the biggest Broadway flops of all time, and, after many revisions by the original creators, had a successful off-Broadway limited engagement in 2012.

Today in 1998, Footloose opened at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it ran for 709 performances. Footloose is a 1998 musical based on the 1984 film of the same name. The music is by Tom Snow (among others), the lyrics by Dean Pitchford (with additional lyrics by Kenny Loggins), and the book by Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. It starred Jeremy Kushnier as Ren McCormack, Stephen Lee Anderson as Reverend Shaw Moore, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Ariel Moore, Tom Plotkin as Willard Hewitt, and Dee Hoty as Vi Moore.

CARRIE, the cult rock musical based on Stephen King's breakout novel will bow in Vancouver this fall at the Jericho Arts Centre. The production marks the show's Canadian regional premier, led by a cast of rising Vancouver talents. The musical features music by Michael Gore, and lyrics byDean Pitchford, who collaborated on the score for FAME. Lawrence D. Cohen supplies the show's book, after previously adapting the screenplay for the original film version of the tale (directed by Brian DePalma).

Batman, and The Transfer Group announced today that an all-new, reimagined, environmental and completely immersive theater production of the legendary musical CARRIE will begin performances at Southern California's La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts (14900 La Mirada Blvd.) on March 12, 2015, with an official opening night set for March 18, 2015.
