THE LAST SHIP Company Reunites in Concert Tonight at 54 Below

THE LAST SHIP played its final performance on Broadway on Saturday, January 24, but fans still have another chance to catch the cast in action. Tonight, March 2 (9:30PM), they will reunite at 54 Below for 'Songs in the Quay of Life: THE LAST SHIP Company in Concert.' The original cast and band will celebrate their run with an eclectic evening themed around seafaring songs. Proceeds will go to support Wallsend Boys Club in the north of England, which was founded by shipbuilders.

BWW Flashback: THE LAST SHIP Sets Final Sail from Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre Tonight

THE LAST SHIP will play its final performance on Broadway tonight, January 24 at 8 p.m., at the Neil Simon Theatre (where it has played 29 preview performances and 105 regular performances). Prior to its Broadway debut, The Last Ship had a five-week tryout in Chicago last summer, where it played 38 performances. On December 9, 2014, Sting, who composed The Last Ship's score, joined the cast in the role of Jackie White, the foreman of the shipyard who rallies his community to build one last ship meant to sail the world. BroadwayWorld salutes the musical with a closing night flashback below!

THE LAST SHIP - the new musical with music and lyrics by 16-time Grammy Award-winner Sting and book by Tony Award-winner John Logan and Pulitzer Prize-winner Brian Yorkey opened on Broadway on October 26 with overwhelming praise for its emotionally powerful score. Today, December 16, Universal Music Classics releases the Original Broadway Cast Album for The Last Ship, produced by the Emmy-Award winning and multi-Grammy-nominated producer Rob Mathes. The play is directed by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello and choreographed by Olivier Award-winner Steven Hoggett, with musical direction, orchestrations and arrangements also by Rob Mathes.

The 16-time Grammy Award winner Sting - who has said his love of Broadway musicals dates to his childhood in Newcastle when his mother played Broadway cast recordings (CAROUSEL, OKLAHOMA!, etc.) that, to quote Sting, "I ate for breakfast," - just joined the cast of THE LAST SHIP to create the original cast recording of his new musical. 'Work is a sacrament, an outward sign of inward grace,' preaches Father O'Brien, the salty and profane priest featured in Sting's new musical, THE LAST SHIP. This musical that celebrates the men and women who still make things and who devote their lives to their work, opened Sunday, October 26.
