Terrific New Theatre announces its 32nd season, the second under Artistic Director Tam DeBolt. In September, TNT opens the 2017-18 season with the Charles Busch comedy "The Tribute Artist," and also presents the playwright in a special performance of his own for one night only. Face it- we've all seen Scrooge's story a thousand times. But tonight's performance of SCROOGE! THE MUSICAL at the Hoover Library kept me engaged with smart and inventive direction by Jack Mann and an all-star cast.
CALENDAR GIRLS by Tim Firth, is a delightful play based on the movie of the same name. It is a pleasant and enjoyable show, especially for a 'girls' night out.'
MOON OVER BUFFALO at Virginia Samford Theatre is certainly high energy slap stick that makes you want to find some quiet after it is done. A little too over the top for my taste, there are definitely laughs to be had.
This college production is on par with anything I have seen recently, professional or community theatre. The entire ensemble is talented and enthusiastic. This is one to see, but time is limited!
The 10th Anniversary of Barter Theatre's Young Playwrights Festival (YPF) was an outstanding success breaking records in number of students participating and plays submitted. Over 400 students participated from nine area high schools with a total of 248 plays. On Monday, November 5, the winning plays were announced at two performances: a morning performance just for students and teachers and an evening performance for the community and parents.
