New Yiddish Rep's revival of the controversial classic 'God of Vengeance' just hosted a talk-back, allowing audiences to delve deeply into aspects of this groundbreaking play by Sholem Asch. Just last night Rebecca Taichman (the director and co-creator of the Broadway-bound play 'Indecent,' which is based on the history of the play, and Gene Steinberg), headed to LaMaMa for the discussion and she was joined by some of her Indecent cast. First Yiddish Revival of GOD OF VENGEANCE, Basis of Broadway-Bound INDECENT, Headed to La MaMa

New York audiences will be treated to the first revival in Yiddish in many decades of Sholem Asch's shocking and ahead-of-its-time drama "God of Vengeance," the basis of the Broadway-bound play "Indecent." Directed by and featuring the Tony nominee Eleanor Reissa, "God of Vengeance" begins previews at La MaMa, 74A East 4th Street, starting December 22. It opens on Christmas Day.

Casting Complete for New Yiddish Rep's GOD OF VENGEANCE at La MaMa

Casting is now complete for New Yiddish Rep's highly anticipated 'God of Vengeance,' which begins previews for a five-week Off-Broadway run at La MaMa, 74A East 4th Street, starting December 22. It opens on Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25 at 7:30pm.

Tony-Nominated Eleanor Reissa Will Direct New Yiddish Rep's GOD OF VENGEANCE Off-Broadway

The Tony-nominated director Eleanor Reissa is set to helm New Yiddish Rep's contemporary staging of Sholem Asch's notorious drama 'God of Vengeance' at La MaMa this winter. The Yiddish language production's Off-Broadway opening is on Christmas Day, Sunday December 25 at 7:30pm with previews beginning Thursday December 22.  It will run for five weeks and 33 performances through Sunday January 22.

New Yiddish Rep to Present Wolf Mankowitz Double Bill

New Yiddish Rep presents two one-act plays by the fascinating English-born polyglot Wolf Mankowitz -- both of which were also made into noteworthy British films -- "The Irish Hebrew Lesson," and the world premiere in Yiddish of "The Bespoke Overcoat."  A theatrical feast in three languages, New Yiddish Rep's Mankowitz double bill, entitled "2 by Wolf," runs from June 11 to July 2 at the cell, 338 West 23rd Street.  Moshe Yassur, the internationally acclaimed director of New Yiddish Rep's groundbreaking "Waiting for Godot" in Yiddish, will direct.

New Yiddish Rep to Present MAKING STALIN LAUGH in May

New Yiddish Rep is presenting the US premiere of 'Making Stalin Laugh,' British playwright David Schneider's dark comedy that details the events leading up to the chilling silencing by Stalin of the revered Yiddish actor Solomon Mikhoels. Directed by Allen Lewis Rickman, the developmental workshop production plays an exclusive two-night engagement at Theatre 80, 80 St. Marks Place in the East Village, Sunday and Monday May 17 and 18, both at 7pm. The production's multi-lingual cast includes Israeli television star Gera Sandler (as Mikhoels), and Yelena Shmulenson ('A Serious Man').

New Yiddish Rep Postpones SELTZER NIGHTS

New Yiddish Rep is announcing the postponement of its vaudeville project 'Seltzer Nights' due to scheduling conflicts with the creative team. A darkly theatrical cabaret that recreates the bawdy, boisterous atmosphere of a Lower East Side Yiddish music hall a century ago, 'Seltzer Nights' began on Saturday March 21 and was scheduled to incubate at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, through June 13. Its three remaining performances - on April 18, May 9 and June 13 -- have been cancelled.

New Yiddish Rep to Kick Off 'Seltzer Nights' Next Month

New Yiddish Rep recreates the bawdy, boisterous and often backbiting atmosphere of a Yiddish music hall on the Lower East Side a century ago with the first of several planned 'Seltzer Nights' beginning Saturday March 21 at 7pm. The launch of the 'Seltzer Nights' project, which incubates at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, for four Saturdays through the spring, culminates in a daring new original American musical in English and Yiddish (the premiere of which will be announced at a later date).

THE MCGOWAN TRILOGY and PORT AUTHORITY Win Big at 2014 Origin's 1st Irish Festival

The 7th annual Origin's 1st Irish Festival handed out its jury-voted honors at an awards ceremony at Papillon Bistro and Bar, 22 East 54th Street, on Monday night. Edging out the competition were 'The McGowan Trilogy,' produced by the cell, which grabbed three awards (including best actress, best director and best design), and the Irish Repertory Theatre's 'Port Authority,' which garnered two top prizes -- for best actor and best production.

Yiddish WAITING FOR GODOT to Open 7th Annual Origin's 1st Irish Festival in September

The New Yiddish Rep's crowd-pleasing world premiere of Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot' in Yiddish, a surprise hit of the 2013-14 season, opens the 7th annual Origin's 1st Irish Festival in September. Presented by the Barrow Street Theatre, 27 Barrow Street, from September 4 to 21, the show's return engagement Off-Broadway completes a remarkable trans-Atlantic journey for this uniquely illuminating version of Beckett's absurdist masterwork, as it comes on the heels of its European premiere in Northern Ireland where 'Vartn Auf Godo' will open the 3rd annual Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival.

Avi Hoffman Juggles Two Shows and Two Languages at Once
