YIVO Yiddish Folksong Festival Returns with Continuing Evolution: Yiddish Folksong Today

This May, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is hosting Continuing Evolution: Yiddish Folksong Today, a music festival featuring four concerts which cross stylistic boundaries between classical music and folk performance. The festival features the premiere of more than twelve newly commissioned classical works alongside a wealth of lesser-known compositions from YIVO's archival collections, and performances by over thirty musical artists.

Guitarist Jason Vieaux to Release BACH VOLUME 2: WORKS FOR VIOLIN

On Friday, April 1, 2022, GRAMMY Award-winning classical guitarist Jason Vieaux will release Bach Volume 2: Works for Violin on Azica Records. A follow up to his critically acclaimed 2009 Azica album, Bach Volume 1: Works for Lute, Volume 2 completes Vieaux's Bach cycle with J. S. Bach's Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006.

Chamber Music Northwest Announces a Live, Four-Week 2021 Summer Festival

CMNW is offering 13 more live, limited seating, in-person concerts through July 25 at Reed College's Kaul Auditorium; plus two free outdoor concerts for the community July 12 and 13. The AT-HOME Festival begins July 15 with produced recordings of the festival's 2021 live concerts and continues through August 31.

The Cleveland Orchestra Promotes Vinay Parameswaran To Associate Conductor

Effective immediately, The Cleveland Orchestra has announced the promotion of Vinay Parameswaran to the position of Associate Conductor and the extension of his contracts. The agreement continues Mr. Parameswaran's tenure with the Orchestra through the 2021-22 season.

Brooklyn Art Song Society To Present Canteloube's Chant's d'Auvergne

On Friday, November, 1st, Brooklyn Art Song Society presents the second installment of its series Home with a rare complete performance of Joseph Canteloube's magnum opus, Chant's d'Auvergne. Canteloube collected the folk melodies of the Auvergne region and imbued these whimsical, earthy tunes with emotional depth and a rich Straussian harmonic palette. The work will be performed in the original piano version and sung in the French dialect Occitan. Soprano Maria Valdes and mezzo soprano Devony Smith make their BASS debuts, joined by sopranos Marnie Breckenridge and Laura Stricking. Art Historian Patricia Mainardi (CUNY) gives a pre- concert lecture at 7:00PM.

Black Oak Ensemble Makes Recording Debut With 'Silenced Voices' On Cedille Records

Black Oak Ensemble, a string trio featuring three of Chicago's most enterprising chamber musicians, will make its recording debut July 12, 2019, with Silenced Voices, an album of intriguing works by six promising, early 20th century Jewish composers originally from Austria-Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and the Netherlands.

After a premiere season in 2017 at the Luminato Festival and World Stage Design 'Scenofest' in Taipei, Taiwan, Theaturtle's acclaimed Charlotte: A Tri-Coloured Play with Music will tour to Jaffa Fest in Tel Aviv, Israel, Theatre on Podol in Kiev, Ukraine, The National Theatre of the Czech Republic in Prague, and other significant European venues.

The Cleveland Orchestra Extends Vinay Parameswaran's Contract As Assistant Conductor & Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Music Director

The Cleveland Orchestra has announced an extension of Assistant Conductor Vinay Parameswaran's contracts. The agreement continues Parameswaran's tenure with the Orchestra for two years through the 2020-21 season. He will continue to hold the Elizabeth Ring and William Gwinn Mather Assistant Conductor Endowed Chair. A concurrent agreement extends Parameswaran's role as Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra through the same period.

THE ANCHORESS to Get World Premiere At the Kimmel Center

The Anchoress, a new monodrama by composer David Ludwig, "a composer with something urgent to say" (Philadelphia Inquirer), will have its world premiere today, October 17, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia under the auspices of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. The next evening, Thursday, October 18, the New York premiere will take place at DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Set to texts by Katie Ford, whose poetry "possess[es] the veiled brilliance of stained glass windows seen at night" (The New York Times Book Review), The Anchoress is based on the medieval mystic tradition called anchorism and its relationship to contemporary society. It will be performed by soprano Hyunah Yu, the early music ensemble Piffaro: The Renaissance Wind Band, and all-saxophone PRISM Quartet.

Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra's 2018-19 Season At Severance Hall Announced

The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra (COYO) and its Music Director Vinay Parameswaran today announced details of the 2018-19 season. The Youth Orchestra, under Mr. Parameswaran's direction, will perform a three-concert series at Severance Hall on November 16, 2018; March 3, 2019 (with the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus); and May 10, 2019. Subscription packages are on sale now, with individual tickets available starting on September 4, 2018.
