Disney announced today that multiple GRAMMY Award–winning superstar Mariah Carey has recorded the song, “Almost Home,” for OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, the studio's highly anticipated fantastical adventure, directed by Sam Raimi, releasing in theaters nationwide on March 8, 2013.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announced today two upcoming productions: the American premiere of Othello: The Remix, created by the Q Brothers, March 12-April 28, 2013 in the theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare, and the upcoming CST Family production Shrek The Musical, staged by Jeff Award-winning director Rachel Rockwell, July 13-September 1, 2013 in CST's Courtyard Theater.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company begins the new year with Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, under the direction of ensemble member Austin Pendleton. The Birthday Party features ensemble members Ian Barford, Francis Guinan, Moira Harris and John Mahoney with Sophia Sinise (one actor is still to be announced). The Birthday Party opens tonight, February 3, 2013, and runs through May 19 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).

In keeping with their proud artistic tradition, Newnan Theatre Company once again tackles a difficult subject head on. This time, it's a family grieving over the loss of a child. David Lindsay-Abaire's 'Rabbit Hole' opens February 14 and runs through February 24. The play contains some mature language.

Just a two years after its Broadway debut, Performance Network Theatre will engage, challenge, and inspire audiences to discover the hilarity and tragedy of hard work versus sheer luck with the 2011 Tony Nominee for Best New Play, Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire previewing February 21st-February 29th, opening with a champagne reception on March 1st with performances through March 31st.

Walnut Street Theatre continues its landmark 204th season with the Philadelphia premiere of Broadway's sensational new play GOOD PEOPLE. Directed by Walnut's Artistic Producing Director Bernard Havard, this smart, funny production begins previews on March 12th, opens on March 20th and runs through April 28th on the Walnut's Mainstage.

In playwright David Lindsay-Abaire's Rabbit Hole, opening February 15th at the Farmington Players Barn Theater, a couple struggles to put their lives back together after the accidental death of their child. Laurel Stroud of Redford Township plays Becca and Jay McNeil of West Bloomfield plays her husband Howie. As they battle to return to "normal" and reunite as a couple, each copes with the tragedy in very different and often conflicting ways. This contrast is most stark in the way each relates to Jason (played by Joel Hunter of Commerce Twp.), the young man who accidentally killed their son.

Three estranged brothers reunite to settle unfinished business in the world premiere of A Family Thing, a darkly funny new drama about the meaning of family by Gary Lennon (The Interlopers). The Echo Theater Company presents a five-week run at Stage 52, February 16-March 17, directed by Chris Fields.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. It's just the way life is. Things aren't always "fair" or even equitable, but that's just something we all have to understand and accept. In these tough economic times that we live in, it's a hard fact that everyone needs to be made aware of, and playwright David Lindsay-Abaire examines this issue in his brilliant play GOOD PEOPLE. I think it's a tremendously engaging work that absolutely demands to be seen. Thankfully, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has staged a must-see production of this play at a time when it's especially relevant, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The casting and direction are spot on, and the message, told with humor and drama in a remarkably even balance, is one that is very important to all of us.
