THE WHIPPING MAN Opens in Columbus 5/4

Gallery Players and New Players Theater will present the Columbus premiere of Matthew Lopez' THE WHIPPING MAN, a recent off-Broadway success that was extended four times when it ran in New York, won Obie, Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Awards, and was the third most produced play in the country last year, according to American Theatre Magazine.

Marin Theatre Company Announces 2013-14 Season

Marin Theatre Company's artistic director Jasson Minadakis and managing director Michael Barker announced the company's 2013-14 season today. Featuring six productions in MTC's intimate 231-seat Boyer Theatre, the season includes the regional premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire's national sensation Good People; a revival of August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play Fences;world premieres of I and You by Bay Area-based playwright Lauren Gunderson and Lasso of Truth, which MTC commissioned from Carson Kreitzer with the support of the National New Play Network; the west coast premiere of Philip Dawkins' "whimsical beyond all imagining" Failure: A Love Story; and a unique holiday production of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol by Tom Mula. Based in Mill Valley, MTC is a 47-year old professional nonprofit theater, a destination for exhilarating performances, inspired new American plays and powerful theatrical experiences.

KIMBERLY AKIMBO to Open 4/12 at The Country Playhouse

The Country Playhouse will pre­sent Kimberly Akimbo by David Lindsay-Abaire in its Black Box venue for three weekends only, April 12 - 27. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on April 21 at 2:00 p.m., plus a weeknight show on Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Park Square Theatre announces a 2013-2014 Season composed entirely of area, regional and world premieres - opening with David Lindsay-Abaire's dark comedy Good People and closing with the first ever stage depiction of Nero Wolfe, the famously eccentric detective genius created by best-selling author Rex Stout. The talent bringing these stories to life includes bold-faced names and theatre favorites, including the Minnesota stage debut of James Denton of Desperate Housewives fame, the return of Emmy-nominee Linda Kelsey playing Mary Todd Lincoln and the Park Square directing debuts of Joe Chvala and Amy Rummenie.

David Lindsay-Abaire's GOOD PEOPLE Comes to Trustus Theatre, Now thru 4/6

Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire won the Trustus Playwrights' Festival with his script Show of Hands in 1995. He went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2007 for Rabbit Hole, which Trustus produced in 2008. Now, Trustus is bringing Linday-Abaire's newest Tony-nominated script Good People to the Thigpen Main Stage under the direction of nationally-acclaimed guest director Jim O'Connor. Good People opens tonight, March 22nd at 8:00pm, and runs through April 6th, 2013.

Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre is thrilled to present Disney's fantastical adventure "Oz The Great and Powerful" in spectacular Disney Digital 3D and Dolby Atmos, it was announced today by Lylle Breier, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Special Events for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. "Oz The Great and Powerful" will have a special advance screening for the public, with prizes, on Thursday, March 7 at 8:30 pm (doors open at 8 pm); the El Capitan engagement of "Oz The Great and Powerful" is through April 30. The film, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved wizard character. El Capitan guests will also get to see an exclusive display of costumes from the movie.

The Horton Foote Legacy Project Launches Inaugural Writer's Retreat With Annie Baker and David Lindsay-Abaire

Formed in 2012 by Tony Award-nominated actress, Hallie Foote, and her siblings, Daisy Foote, Walter Foote, and Horton Foote, Jr., the HORTON FOOTE LEGACY PROJECT (HFLP) is a new not-for-profit endeavor whose mission is to support emerging and established American playwrights and to preserve and advance the legacy of Horton Foote and his body of work. In an effort to achieve this mission, the organization is launching its inaugural Horton Foote Writer's Retreat, a program that gives writers the rare opportunity to reside and write undisturbed in Horton Foote's preserved Wharton, Texas home.

Berkeley Playhouse Announces 2013-14 Season

Berkeley Playhouse has announced the lineup for its sixth season. The family-friendly season of musicals timeless and new opens in October with Andrew Lippa and Brian Crawley's enchanting A LITTLE PRINCESS, directed by Berkeley Playhouse Artistic Director Elizabeth McKoy. Marissa Wolf returns to the company to direct Meredith Wilson's THE MUSIC MAN in February, followed by THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE in April, directed by Kimberly Dooley. Closing the MainStage season is SHREK THE MUSICAL directed by Elizabeth McKoy in July. In addition to the MainStage season, the company will present winter, spring, and fall YouthStage productions. The entire 2013-14 season will be staged at the Julia Morgan Theater (2640 College Avenue) in Berkeley. Subscriptions ($54-$112) on-sale March 23; single tickets ($17-$60) on-sale August 1. BWW Reviews: Powerful Class Warfare in Seattle Rep's GOOD PEOPLE

Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire has made a name for himself as an author who takes those uncomfortable situations and artfully puts them up on stage with heart and humor. Whether dealing with the loss of a child or the loss of memory his crisp dialogue always conveys sincere emotion and a discomfort that's riveting. His recent "Good People" currently playing at the Seattle Rep is no exception. And in addition to Lindsay-Abaire's fantastic script, Director David Saint and the Rep have assembled a superb cast and crafted a truly engaging power struggle between two old friends.

Performance Network Theatre Extends GOOD PEOPLE Through 4/7

Performance Network Theatre is selling out performances to "Good People" by David Lindsay-Abaire and has decided to extend the run an extra week with a 7:30pm performance on April 4, a 3pm and 8pm performance on April 6, and a final performance at 2pm on April 7, 2013. "Good People" - a 2011 Tony Nominee for Best Play - is studded with a cast of good friends and all-star talent.
