Primal Forces' Having Our Say brings two talented South Florida actresses together in a beautifully-staged production. Audiences will resonate with the play's themes of optimism, the value of family, and what it truly means to fight for justice.

Yes, Bette Midler & Barry Manilow have decided to do a concert together and they're doing it at Island City Stage! Or rather, Associate Artistic Director Michael Leeds imagines what it would be like if they did in his new show 'Bette and Barry: From Bathhouse to Broadway'. Picture all those memorable songs like "Wind Beneath My Wings, "Copacabana" "The Rose" and "I Write The Songs" sung by Bette & Barry and backed by the legendary Harlettes. "It's A Miracle" you say. "Could It Be Magic" you ask. Bring your "Friends" and find out!

Island City Stage Presents World Premiere THE RADICALIZATION OF ROLFE
by Stephi Wild
- Apr 1, 2018
In similar fashion to the hit musical 'Wicked', playwright Andrew Bergh's 'The Radicalization of Rolfe' imagines the secret story of Rolfe from 'The Sound of Music' and his activities when not pursuing Liesl Von Trapp. Intrigue pervades the Von Trapp household as the lives of Rolfe, the housekeeper Frau Schmidt, the butler Franz and Rolfe's 'friend' Johan get swept into the dark forces perpetrated by Herr Zeller and the approaching Nazi anschluss.

BWW Review: COMMUNION at Primal Forces
by John Lariviere
- Jan 31, 2018
This Primal Forces production of Communion is in the intimate setting of Empire Stage. The set and the costumes are effective and clean. The direction is surprisingly sensitive from a company that prides itself on cutting-edge shock value. The writing is intelligent, the subject matter is thought-provoking, and the acting is gripping and smart. This is definitely worth a go see, especially for a stand out performance by Kim Ostrenko.
BWW Review: ZANNA, DON'T! at Island City Stage
by John Lariviere
- Jan 21, 2018
Do not be confused by the title. This musical fairy tale is not based on the 1980s Olivia Newton John movie Xanadu. However, author Tim Acito did purposely reference the film in his title because he hoped to emulate that same feeling of sweetness and magic. Like Olivia Newton Johns' character in Xanadu, who was a mystical muse sent to Earth to inspire men, the leading character of Zanna, Don't! is a magical matchmaking teen named Zanna (Conor Walton). With the help of his magic wand, Zanna tends to the hearts and lives of all around him in this fantastical tale touting a humorous and hopeful message of tolerance and acceptance.

The joyous and gleeful musical 'Zanna Don't' bounds its way into Island City Stage to ring in the New Year with heart and hope. With book, music and lyrics by Tim Acito (with additional book and lyrics by Alexander Dinelaris, a former Barry University student) the musical became a surprise Off Broadway hit in 2003 and made a star out of Jai Rodriguez, who went on to be a regular on the popular tv series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
