Orlando Shakespeare Theater to Host Charles Dickens' Birthday Celebration This Friday

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF welcomes audiences to a pre-show celebration of Charles Dickens' 202nd birthday on Friday, February 7, 2014. Prior to the evening's performance of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Part I, ticket holders and the public are invited to gather in the lobby of the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center for birthday cake, donated by Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs. Charles Dickens himself will be in attendance to kick off the special event (appearance courtesy of the Florida Theatrical Association and the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation). The Charles Dickens' Birthday Celebration begins at 7:00 p.m.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF is thrilled to present the epic theatrical event The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Parts I and II. Written by David Edgar and adapted from the novel by Charles Dickens, the production is produced in Collaboration with Theatre UCF. Co-directed by Artistic Director Jim Helsinger and Theatre UCF Chair/Artistic Director Christopher Niess, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Parts I & II is presented in rotating repertory from today, January 22 to March 9, 2014 at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Loch Haven Park.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF will hold its 6th Annual Mock Trial on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Loch Haven Park. Presented by the Bard's Board Barristers, this year's mock trial is based on Charles Dickens' The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Parts I and II (adapted for the stage by David Edgar). Ticket holders will watch as the Margeson Theater is transformed into an interactive courtroom and Nicholas Nickleby is put on the stand, charged with the assault and battery of Headmaster Wackford Squeers, along with the kidnapping of the young orphan Smike. Aaron Copland once characterized 'The Rite of Spring' as the foremost orchestral achievement of the 20th century, and The New York Times proclaimed the significance of the work to be 'to the 20th century as Beethoven's Ninth is to the 19th.' With the arrival of the centennial of Stravinsky's iconic masterwork, a reverberation of celebration can be heard around the symphonic world-and Pacific Symphony is no exception, offering a variety of activities throughout the rest of the 2012-13 season. In conceiving 'The Rite of Spring,' Stravinsky broke all the rules and defied convention, and it is very much in this spirit that the Symphony approaches its celebration.
Jonathan Fitts Leads 2013 Summer Theatre Conservatory for Burning Coal

Burning Coal Theatre Company has announced that Jonathan Fitts, a recent graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, will conduct its 2013 Summer Theatre Conservatory for Teens in July. Jonathan will then take over as Director of Education at Burning Coal Theatre Company. A photo of Jon is attached and his bio is below.
