The Best in LA Theatre for 2013

Ah, yes. 2013 was indeed an outstanding year for theater in Southern California. Even better: Orange County---my home base---boasted some of the best shows, period---marking an exciting theater renaissance in brilliance and artistry that I hope continues to grow here inside L.A.'s next door neighbor. With that said, here is my Top 10 Stage Shows of 2013 from Orange County and adjacent locales nearby, followed by my picks for the year's best performances.

The Broadway Tenors return by popular demand to 'sing in' the holidays with the Stockton Symphony. This enchanting holiday performance, 'Tis the Season with the Broadway Tenors, takes place tonight, December 14, at 6:00 p.m. at the Atherton Auditorium on the San Joaquin Delta College campus in Stockton, and will repeat on Sunday, December 15, at 2:30 p.m.

The Mid-Life Crisis Comedy Musical, playing at Stage 72 at the Triad in November 2013. America's romantic piano sensation Jim Brickman comes to San Francisco's Nob Hill, for two unique performances presented by Bay Area Cabaret in the historic Venetian Room. The Grammy nominated pianist/songwriter will be joined on stage during his 5pm performance by Broadway heartthrob David Burnham, during which the two will perform songs from Brickman's current 'Love Tour,' including 'Romanza,' 'Love of My Life,' 'Dream Come True,' and more. For his 8pm solo performance, Brickman will perform a selection of his greatest hits, including 'Valentine,' 'If You Believe,' 'The Gift,' and many other fan favorites. Revolutionizing the sound of solo piano, Brickman currently holds the record for the most appearances by a male artist on Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. His hugely popular radio program, Your Weekend With Jim Brickman, has been nationally syndicated since 1997 and on television he has recorded three of his own concert specials with PBS. On Wednesday, October 30th, the blockbuster musical, WICKED, will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on Broadway, a milestone achieved by only ten other Broadway productions in history. The creative team and many of the musical's previous cast members will celebrate WICKED's first decade with a special performance, followed by a company party, on October 30th at 7:00pm. BroadwayWorld will be counting down to the milestone with daily flashbacks of Wicked's biggest events, most memorable cast members, and best performances. In today's installment, we remember the actors that have taken on the role of Oz's resident bad boy- Fiyero!

Continuing its 10th Anniversary Season, Bay Area Cabaret presents America's Romantic Piano Sensation, Jim Brickman in concert. Making his first San Francisco appearance in nearly ten years, Mr. Brickman will perform solo at 8pm, and with special guest Broadway tenor David Burnham at 5pm, Sunday, November 10, at the historic Venetian Room of the Fairmont San Francisco, 950 Mason Street.
