In major anticipation of the film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," J.R.R. Tolkien enthusiast/super fan Stephen Colbert hosted a guest appearance from Sir Ian McKellan last night on the THE COLBERT REPORT on Comedy Central. Prior to bringing out his guest, the funnyman showed off a map which transposed 'Middle Earth' on to New York City. Check out the clips from last night's show below!

"The Hobbit" hits theaters nationwide on Friday, December 14.

Greendale Community College's most famous study group will have a new member beginning in 2013 (and it's not Beetlejuice) as COMEDY CENTRAL has reached a multi-year deal with Sony Picture Television to license the critically-acclaimed comedy series 'Community,' it was announced today by David Bernath, Executive Vice President, Program Strategy & Multiplatform Programming/Dean of Students for COMEDY CENTRAL and [Sony Pictures Television]. The all-comedy channel will launch the series with three seasons beginning in the fall of 2013.

The seven shows scheduled this season at Performance Network are just the last in a long line of plays and musicals staged at Ann Arbor's professional theatre, now celebrating its 30th Anniversary Season. Wood Street Galleries is proud to present the world premiere of 'Shortplayer,' a new composition by renowned artist and composer Jem Finer. 'Shortplayer' will be performed by Finer leading a group of Pittsburgh's finest musicians at 9:30 p.m. Friday, October 1 at Wood Street Galleries, immediately following the Downtown Gallery Crawl. ('Shortplayer' concert admission is $10/$8 students.) The performance marks the Pittsburgh launch of Finer's acclaimed artwork Longplayer, a 1,000-year-long composition that has played continuously since 1999, and which arrives in Pittsburgh as part of Wood Street Galleries' sound-installation show, Audio Space (Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2010).
