Adventure Theatre MTC to Present PETITE ROUGE: A CAJUN RED RIDING HOOD, 1/30-3/8

Adventure Theatre MTC brings the sights and sounds of Louisiana to Glen Echo Park with its upcoming production Petite Rouge, A Cajun Red Riding Hood from January 30 through March 8. This family-friendly, Zydeco-driven musical was adapted from the book by Mike Artell and Jim Harris by D.C. native Joan Cushing. Petite Rouge is directed and choreographed by ATMTC Producing Artistic Director Michael J. Bobbitt with musical direction by Darius Smith.

Starring Helen Hayes Award-winner Donna Migliaccio and newcomer Lara Zinn, the classic musical features memorable songs such as 'A Part of Your World' and 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' as well as the Academy Award®-Winning Best Original Song 'Under the Sea'.

The late August Wilson is one of America's greatest playwrights. From the early 1980s up until his death in 2005, Wilson wrote 10 plays, each encompassing African American life in a different decade focusing on the same Pittsburgh neighborhood, with Ma Rainey's Black Bottom being the sole play to occur outside of Pittsburgh. These 10 plays when put together are known as The Pittsburgh Cycle or Century Cycle, and is considered some of the 10 best plays ever written by an American playwright.

Not since Carrie. A phrase that has haunted creators of musicals ever since Ken Mandelbaum's famous 1991 book that looks at 40 years of Broadway musical flops. The original Broadway production in 1988 was a disaster, partly due to the writing, but more to do with original director Terry Hands' disastrous approach and minimalist concept. Closing 5 performances after the official opening night, Carrie cleaned up its blood, but not its money and went on to become one of the most famous and financial flops (although a certain Bono-tuned superhero of recent memory has surpassed that).

Virginia's Signature Theatre opens its' air-conditioned doors once again for the annual Sizzlin' Summer Nights Series. For two and a half weeks, Signature's intimate cabaret venue hosts an eclectic mix of Signature favorites, DC-area stars, and some of New York's most exciting performers. The cabaret series runs today, July 9 through July 26, with a different performance each night.

Last night, the 2013 Summer Hummer, a bawdy benefit burlesque in support of Taking Care of Our Own, raised $24,500, greatly exceeding attendance and contributions from last year's inaugural event. Taking Care of Our Own is a program of theatreWashington, providing assistance to Washington area theatre professionals experiencing unforeseen emergencies.
