At a press conference held May 30 in the lobby of the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 235 nominations for the 38th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which recognize excellence in the performing arts in Toronto.

Best Musical Tony Award contender COME FROM AWAY won big at the Toronto Theatre Critics Awards including Best New Musical, Best Production of a Musical, and Best Direction of a Musical. Mirvish Productions produced the show at the Royal Alexandra Theatre last December before it moved down to New York.

Adapting a beloved children's classic to Broadway is so fraught with landmines that it's a wonder people even attempt it since it seems like there's no way to possibly make something as fantastic as the original.  Good thing Denis Kelly (Book) and Tim Minchin (Music & Lyrics) are braver and more creative than most because they managed to create something that is both brand new and also incredibly faithful to the original.  Roald Dahl, author of the book Matilda, has such a unique voice and bizarre ways to torture the children in his stories, usually by placing them at the mercy of moronic adults, that one worries anything based on his work coming out post 2010 would be sanitized and inoffensive to the point of being a pale shadow of the original.  Well, MATILDA: THE MUSICAL has all the pigtail tossing and forced feeding one requires from the Matilda story, along with some fantastically cheeky songs, and excellent performances all around.

MATILDA is a great story with great characters, so it only makes sense that a musical would be its next iteration. Though the show closed on Broadway on January 1, 2017, the national tour still goes strong and now appears at the Dr. Philips Center.

Performing Arts Fort Worth presents MATILDA THE MUSICAL June 13-18 at Bass Performance Hall, as part of the 2016-2017 Broadway at the Bass season.

While Matilda the Musical is silly, it is by no means lighthearted--rather, it is full of dark twists, and strong social messages about the cruelty of society, and the imagination that suffers because of it. The national tour of Matilda the Musical is based off of the classic children's novel by Roald Dahl, with book by Dennis Kelly and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Matilda, her schoolmates, and some outrageously self-absorbed adults have descended upon the San Diego San Diego Civic Theatre through February 5th.

TIME Magazine's #1 Show of the Year, MATILDA THE MUSICAL, announced today the 2017 North American tour dates after a twice-extended six-month sit-down production in Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre, which concludes its highly successful run on January 7, 2017.

It wouldn't be a holiday season in Toronto without a Ross Petty show - and this year's Sleeping Beauty is, as always, the perfect night out for the entire family.

Due to unprecedented demand for tickets, David Mirvish the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers have announced that the Canadian premiere production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL is once again forcing them to extend its run, this time through January 8th, 2017. This will be the final extension, MATILDA must leave Toronto after its final performance on January 8th.

With performances only beginning last week, David Mirvish and The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Dodgers are delighted to announce that popular demand for the Canadian premiere production of MATILDA THE MUSICAL is once again forcing them to extend its run, this time through November 27, 2016. 

A brilliant production of Matilda the Musical opened last night in Toronto at The Ed Mirvish Theatre. The show, which I saw in in London with the original cast, is truly a family musical for the age we currently live in.
