Bix Beiderbecke Birthday Bash Comes To The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum

The legendary jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke will be celebrated by cornetist Mike Davis and his all-star group with our popular Bix Beiderbecke Birthday Bash on Monday, March 13, at 8:00 p.m. Joining Davis will be Dan Levinson on clarinet, Joe McDonough on trombone, Jared Engel on banjo, Dalton Ridenhour on piano, Jay Rattman on bass saxophone, and Jay Lepley on drums.

New Orleans Inspired Music Festival to Be Held in Central Park on June 25

On Saturday, June 25, a day-long blowout celebration of New Orleans-inspired jazz commences at CENTRAL PARK SUMMERSTAGE with the debut of the NEW YORK HOT JAZZ FESTIVAL ALL-STARS under the direction of multi-award winning trumpeter / vocalist BRIA SKONBERG. The All-Stars band features New York Hot Jazz Festival alumni including multi-reed virtuoso ANAT COHEN; Grammy-winning big band leader VINCE GIORDANO (as heard on Boardwalk Empire), on double bass and tuba; drummer JOE SAYLOR (member of Jon Batiste's Stay Human, the house band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert); stride and ragtime specialist DALTON RIDENHOUR on piano; banjo and vocals by bluesman and hot-jazzer BLIND BOY PAXTON; plus a SURPRISE SPECIAL GUEST on trombone as well as other guests to round out the ensemble.

Triple threat bandleader BRIA SKONBERG will be showcasing her trumpet, vocal and compositional talents at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Sunday March 30th. In 2013 she earned a Jazz Journalists' Association nomination for "Up and Coming Jazz Artist of The Year" and is included in DOWNBEAT Magazine's Rising Star Critics' Poll. She has recently been honored with a New York Bistro Award for "Outstanding Jazz Artist". Best known for her knowledge of classic jazz and instigative nature, she is creating an adventurous style rooted in New Orleans jazz and blues, pop, soul and cabaret. One review states, 'I was kind of thinking Norah Jones, Diana Krall but with a dose of the bubbly.'

Trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg was inspired by Louis Armstrong. Alto saxophonist Tia Fuller was influenced by Cannonball Adderley. On Sunday, March 30 at 3 pm, at the Mayo Performing Arts Center, they will present a groundbreaking concert with no musical borders in a concert presented by the New Jersey Jazz Society. Tickets are $20.

Each concert is at 2:00 pm. Concerts include complimentary red beans n' rice (Louis's favorite recipe) & sweet tea. And, since Louis always celebrated his birthday on July 4th birthday cake will be served during the Fourth of July event to celebrate!
