Stamp Brothers Present PYGMALION as Inaugural Production, Now thru 7/14

George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion will mark the premiere of Stamp Brothers Productions. The inaugural play will be showing in the 133rd Street Art Center at 308 West 133rd Street. Show dates are today, July 12th-14th at 8pm, including a 2pm matinee on the 13th. Stamp Brothers Productions is a Non-Profit organization using a 'Pay-What-You-Can' Ticket program. This means that the production is entirely free; just pay what you feel you can afford to see the show. Tickets are received at the door the night of the show.

Belgrade Theatre Announces Autumn Season: THE PRODIGALS, CHARLIE PEACE & More!

This autumn Coventry's Belgrade Theatre is producing four new shows, including The Prodigals: A Man Had Two Sons, Charlie Peace: His Amazing Life and Astounding Legend, its annual pantomime, which this year is Jack and the Beanstalk and its new B2 Xmas Show Oh No It Isn't! The theatre is also restaging its Coventry Blitz play One Night in November.

John L. Dodson Shares Civil War Memoirs of Homer A. Plimpton in New Book

In his 2012 book, 'The Civil War Journals of Col. Homer A. Plimpton 1861 - 1865' (published by Trafford Publishing), John L. Dodson shares the personal journals of Homer A. Plimpton, who joined the 39th Volunteer Regiment of Illinois in 1861 and rose from Private to Colonel of the regiment.

Royal Portrait of Prince Philip is Unveiled

A recent portrait of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was unveiled by The Duke of Kent at Canada House. The portrait sculpture was created by renowned Canadian artist Christian Corbet.

John Clarence and Tom Whittle Release Book Series Alleging Theft Was Connected to JFK's Assassination

In the newly released book series, The Gold House trilogy, authors John Clarence and Tom Whittle allege that in the summer of 1961 the U.S. Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior, and high-ranking army officers reportedly met at a private residence in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Their purpose, according to an eyewitness: to gather information about a vast hoard of gold bars and ancient artifacts at a remote site named Victorio Peak situated on a nearby military installation. In July that summer the treasure was placed under the control of the U.S. Attorney General. In book two of the trilogy, authors Clarence and Whittle present an official July 31, 1961 transcribed phone conversation between the commanding general at the nearby installation and the Director of Silver & Gold Operations at the U.S. Mint that exposed an approved army operation to search for and remove the gold.

Goodman Theatre's world premiere of The Jungle Book opens on July 1 and, with a second extension week just added, now runs through August 11. Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman reimagines Walt Disney's 1967 animated hit into a wholly original new work for the stage, drawing from both the film as well as Rudyard Kipling's 1894 collection of stories set in the Indian jungle and featuring original Indian-inspired music and dance. As previously announced, 10-year-old Akash Chopra makes his Chicago debut as young 'man cub' Mowgli, who comes of age with the help of the anthropomorphic singing and dancing jungle animals; joining him in the role at select performances is Roni Akurati, who most recently appeared at the Goodman as Tiny Tim in the 2011 production of A Christmas Carol. Mint Theater's A PICTURE OF AUTUMN Extends Through 7/27

Mint Theater (Jonathan Bank, Artistic Director) today announced a two week extension for for the American Premiere of A Picture of Autumn by N.C. Hunter, directed by Gus Kaikkonen. The Mint production will now run until July 27th at its home (311 West 43rd Street).

Gingold Theatrical Group's PROJECT SHAW presented Bernard Shaw's madcap comedy TOO TRUE TO BE GOOD at The Players Club (16 Gramercy Park South) in Manhattan. David Staller produced and directed. In TOO TRUE TO BE GOOD, a glamorous pair of jewel thieves (Charles Busch and Robert Cuccioli) convince a chronic young convalescent (Ryann Redmond) to steal her own jewels and run away with them to a tropical paradise. Her over-protective mother (Jackie Hoffman) comes chasing after them and a riotous time is had by all. This is Shaw's 1931 madcap high-comedy journey, which takes on fad diets, the medical profession, the military, war, religion, and sex. It's a short and lively comedic lark.

Tim O'Brien Wins 2013 Pritzker Military Library Award for Lifetime Achievement

On behalf of the Pritzker Military Library, historian and journalist Sir Max Hastings announced Tim O'Brien as the winner of the 2013 Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing. Sponsored by the Tawani Foundation, the coveted $100,000 literature award will be presented at the Library's annual gala on November 16, 2013.

Al Bruno Returns with THE EVE PROJECT

After the successful publication of his two books, The Treehouse and Castles in the Point, author Al Bruno steals the literary spotlight once again as he releases his latest book, The Eve Project. Inspired by his passion for the macabre, especially werewolves, he weaves, a simple, good old-fashioned horror story not just about werewolves, but genetically engineered werewolves. This book gives a fictional historical account of how dogs have been used in wars for thousands of years.
