Widow Walk is This Summer's 'Must Read'

Mid-nineteenth century American history is well documented and studied, but the incredibly rich history of the Pacific Northwest is often overlooked. During the mid-nineteenth century, the American Pacific Northwest, with its lush land and spectacular landscape, was, teeming with resources, and dotted with emerging colonies of settlers. Cultural clashes, however, threatened the safety, security, and fulfillment of the 'American dream.' Fascinating, yet little known Pacific Northwest history, as well as dramatic adventure and raw emotion are woven together in Dr. Gerard LaSalle's new historical novel, Widow Walk.

Kennedy Center Cast Stars in MY FAIR LADY in Concert at Granada Theatre Today

Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts (SBCPA), in partnership with the Santa Barbara Symphony, is proud to present My Fair Lady in Concert today, June 16 at 3:00 pm at the historic Granada Theatre. This special performance comes to Santa Barbara directly from one of the country's leading centers for the performing arts, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., with a world-class cast under the talented direction of Tony Award nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge. The famous original score will be performed by the Santa Barbara Symphony, under the direction of James Moore.

New York Phil's July Radio Broadcasts to Include GILBERT'S PLAYLIST & More

The July broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begin with a Summertime Classics program from July 2012 titled 'A New York Fourth,' conducted by Bramwell Tovey. The Hellcats and Jazz Knights from the West Point Band, conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Jim Keene, perform 'American Heritage' and 1940s Big Band Swing selections, including Oliver's 'Well, Git It,' Ward's 'America the Beautiful,' and Miller's 'In the Mood.' They also join the New York Philharmonic in Sousa's The Liberty Bell March and The Stars and Stripes Forever March, as well as Philip Egner's The Official West Point March. Soprano Tracy Dahl sings works by Bernstein and Gershwin on the first half of the broadcast.

Happy Medium Presents BLACK COMEDY, Now thru 6/22

Brindsley Miller, a young sculptor, and his debutante fiancee Carol Melkett have borrowed some expensive, antique furniture from his neighbor Harold's flat without his permission in order to impress an elderly millionaire art collector coming to view Brindsley's work, and Carol's father Colonel Melkett. When the power fails, Harold returns early, and Brindsley's ex-mistress Clea shows up unexpectedly, things slide into disaster for him.

STARZ Announces New Original Drama Series MONSTERS OF GODS

Starz announced today that it will develop a post civil-war drama series from award winning writer, director and producer Rod Lurie (The Contender, The Last Castle, Straw Dogs) in conjunction with Plan B Entertainment.

SILENT TREES is Released

Nasir Shansab's dark and brooding new novel is set in Afghanistan, but not one you might recognize. Silent Trees takes place before the Taliban, the Mujahedeen, and even before the Soviet invasion, revealing a world few Americans have ever experienced. Though the story and its characters are fictional, they inhabit a world where the distinction between the real Afghanistan of the 70's and the one of Silent Trees is arbitrary.

Stamp Brothers to Present PYGMALION as Inaugural Production, 7/12-14

George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion will mark the premiere of Stamp Brothers Productions. The inaugural play will be showing in the 133rd Street Art Center at 308 West 133rd Street. Show dates are July 12th-14th at 8pm, including a 2pm matinee on the 13th. Stamp Brothers Productions is a Non-Profit organization using a "Pay-What-You-Can" Ticket program. This means that the production is entirely free; just pay what you feel you can afford to see the show. Tickets are received at the door the night of the show.

Henry J. Sienkiewicz Releases UNTANGLED

The world is an increasingly complex, interconnected place that pounds people with unrelenting images, sounds and messages via social media, the Internet and cell phones. In this new book, author Henry Sienkiewicz draws from Eastern and Western philosophy to examine what he calls a “hyperconnected web of the modern world”.
