The Franklin Performing Arts Company will welcome Chaz Wolcott of So You Think You Can Dance fame to choreograph their upcoming production of Disney's Newsies. It had previously been announced that Broadway's Clay Thomson would choreograph, but due to scheduling conflicts (Thomson will be joining the Original Broadway Cast of King Kong), Wolcott will be taking over.
Initial casting has been announced for the Franklin Performing Arts Company's upcoming production of Disney's Newsies running at THE BLACK BOX in Franklin, MA October 13,14 and 19-21. Broadway's Christopher Rice (The Book of Mormon) will star as Jack Kelly, Ali Funkhouser (nat'l tours of Joseph...Dreamcoat and Evita, The LEX's Legally Blonde) will play Katherine Plumber, and Nick Paone (TheaterWorks USA, Cabaret) will appear as Joseph Pulitzer. The production will be choreographed by Broadway cast member Clay Thomson (Newsies, Matilda). Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) has announced its 2018-2019 season. The company's 28th season will include Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Sept. 21-23), Disney's Newsies choreographed by Broadway cast member Clay Thomson (Oct. 13-14, 19-21), The Nutcracker (Dec. 1-2), Humbug! A Beggar's Opera (Dec. 8-9), an original holiday panto by Nick Paone (Dec. 21-22), You Can't Take it With You (Jan. 25-27), Seussical the Musical (Mar. 8-10, 15-17) , and Cabaret (Jun. 14-15). The season will close with the 12th annual Whatever Theater Festival (Jul. 31-Aug. 3).
The Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) will host two Newsies-themed dance master classes with Broadway cast member Clay Thomson on Sunday, August 19 where he will teach choreography from the show. Clay will be returning to Franklin in October to choreograph FPAC's production of Newsies. A Beginner/Intermediate level class (min. age 10) will be held from 12:00-1:30. An Intermediate/Advanced level class will be held from 2:00-4:00.

Produced and directed by Chad Hilligus, this limited engagement will feature an onstage 40-piece orchestra under the baton of Grammy-winning conductor Richard Kaufman. As previously announced, Ali Ewoldt, who currently stars as Christine in Broadway's Phantom of the Opera, will play Maria alongside Matthew Hydzik as Tony and Natalie Cortez as Anita, both of whom appeared in the 2009 Broadway revival of West Side Story.

With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and conception and choreography by Jerome Robbins, West Side Story is one of the most beloved and celebrated musicals in Broadway history. The original 1957 Broadway production ran for 732 performances and was nominated for six Tony Awards including Best Musical, winning for Best Choreography and Best Scenic Design. The 1961 musical film, directed by Robert Wise and Robbins, won ten Academy Awards including Best Picture.
