NAACP National Board of Directors Chairman Leon W. Russell announced the Association is soliciting nominations for the 104th Spingarn Award. All nominations for the 104th Spingarn Medal must be submitted, in writing, on or before December 31, 2018. To be accepted, the postmark date on the envelope must be no later than December 31, 2018.

Cuba Gooding Jr. has stepped into the role of Billy Flynn in Broadway's Chicago, beginning Saturday, October 6, 2018. He reprises his role as Billy Flynn after originating the part and making his West End stage debut earlier this year in the new 2018 London production of Chicago, currently playing at The Phoenix Theatre. Gooding Jr. will be in the role through November 18.
Pascale Armand to Lead WP Theater's NATURAL SHOCKS

WP Theater has announced that Tony Award Nominee & Obie Award Winner Pascale Armand (Eclipsed, The Trip to Bountiful) will star in the world premiere of Natural Shocks. Written by Lauren Gunderson and directed by May Adrales (Vietgone), the show will play a limited engagement from Saturday, October 28 through Sunday, November 25, with opening night set for Thursday, November 8.

Pacific Symphony won't save the best for last in the opening of the 2018-19 Pops season with the sensational entertainment star Vanessa Williams. Led by Pops conductor, Richard Kaufman, the Symphony joins Williams to celebrate her career for two nights at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, with a program of her icon hits such as "That's Entertainment," "Dreamin'," "Love Is Love," and "Save the Best for Last." The Symphony will also play the Hollywood themes from the film scores of "Splash," "The Producers," "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles," "Animal House and Airplane."

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted Tuesday night (September 4) to present Honorary Awards to publicist Marvin Levy, composer Lalo Schifrin and actress Cicely Tyson, and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. Thomas Allen Harris is celebrating Harlem in his latest art exhibition titled Mother, Bethel, Harlem, USA, a collaboration with students from the Hunter College IMA MFA program to build an interactive exhibition at the Hunter East Harlem Gallery (HEHG), opening Thursday, August 30. Through an investigation of Harris's extensive body of work as a photographer, filmmaker, and creator of the interdisciplinary project Digital Diaspora Family Reunion (DDFR), the students have conceived works that are inspired by the family photo album, practices of archiving, and the local community in Harlem and East Harlem.
