Lincoln Center Theater will soon present Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I, which will feature a cast led by Kelli O'Hara (as Anna Leonowens) and Ken Watanabe (as the King of Siam). Featuring direction by Bartlett Sher, it will begin previews Thursday, March 12 and open on Thursday, April 16 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). Continuing its reputation as one of the nation's most successful theatrical houses, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts announces that the six-time Tony Award-Winner "Kinky Boots" along with the two-time Tony Award-winner "Beautiful - The Carole King Musical" will be among the six musical Broadway hits of the 2015-16 subscription series. According to an Equity casting notice, Tony winner Christopher Gattelli is set to helm an upcoming NYC developmental lab of Top Hat. This version of the show features the classic music and lyrics of Irving Berlin and a new book by Chad Beguelin. The lab is set to be held May 18 through June 19.

Admittedly, I am not in the target demographic for Disney's musical NEWSIES, running through February 1st at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This musical, which concluded its two-and-a-half year Broadway run last fall, has inspired a legion of young, female fans who have dubbed themselves 'Fansies.' So while I might not be who the show is normally marketed towards, I left the Walt Disney Theatre on Opening Night completely infected by the optimism, athleticism, and heart of this movie-musical adaptation. Though far from being without fault, the score (which won a Tony for composer Alan Menken and lyricist Jack Feldman), the script (by Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein), and the immense talent of the young ensemble made this a exceptionally enjoyable evening of entertainment.

The Old Globe today announced it will open its 2015-2016 Season with In Your Arms, a World Premiere dance-theatre musical featuring direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, Lincoln Center Theater's South Pacific) and original music by Tony Award winner Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island; two-time Oscar nominee for Anastasia). Co-conceived by Gattelli and Jennifer Manocherian, In Your Arms features 10 dance vignettes written by an incredible and diverse lineup of theatre powerhouses, including Douglas Carter Beane, Nilo Cruz, Christopher Durang, Carrie Fisher, David Henry Hwang, Rajiv Joseph, Terrence McNally, Marsha Norman, Lynn Nottage, and Alfred Uhry. Among them, the creators have amassed 14 Tony Awards, five Pulitzer Prizes, six Pulitzer finalist designations, and one Academy Award.

Composer Stephen Flaherty just revealed in a recent interview with Aussietheatre.com, that his recent dance musical IN YOUR ARMS, which premiered last year as at part of the summer season at Vassar's Powerhouse Theatre, will soon get a regional run.

Disney Theatrical Productions announced today that tickets for the highly anticipated Washington, DC, engagement of Disney'sNEWSIES will go on sale to the public on Monday, February 2. The Tony Award®-winning production will begin performances at National Theatre on June 9 for a limited two-week engagement through June 21 .

The Charlotte premiere of Disney's NEWSIES opens tonight, Tuesday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center for a limited engagement through Sunday, January 11. In Charlotte, NEWSIES will play Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
