Based upon the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress began performances on March 25 and opened April 24 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). On Friday, July 22, the Theater People podcast welcomes Broadway favorites Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley. Skinner and Ripley first worked together when they were cast as Daisy and Violet Hilton in the 1998 production of SIDE SHOW. The pair reunited on stage in 2000 in the Broadway production of JAMES JOYCE'S THE DEAD.

On Wednesday, July 20th, the Theater People podcast welcomes three-time Tony Award-nominee, Christopher Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald began working professionally in New York theater in the late 1990s. His early work includes roles in the controversial Terrance McNally play CORPUS CHRISTI and the Broadway production of AMOUR.

Broadway Records President Van Dean, SiriusXM Radio Host Seth Rudetsky and Producer James Wesley launched the charitable initiative Broadway for Orlando with an all-star roster of theater artists recording the benefit single 'What the World Needs Now is Love,' at Avatar Studios. Created to honor the victims and those wounded in the Orlando shooting massacre at Pulse nightclub and aid the surrounding community, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the song will benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida. It's just a handful of hours until the 70th annual Tony Awards, and New York City and theatre fans across the world are excitedly buzzing about this year's ceremonies which will be broadcast live on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 8/7c on CBS. This Broadway season has some exciting contenders in the musical categories, and to get you ready for the big night, I'm recapping the albums you should be listening to (or at least pre-ordering).

Before Broadway's biggest night this Sunday, June 12th, 36 productions will have opened on Broadway in the 2015-16 season. Of those productions, 18 are nominated for Tony Awards this year, and 94 of the actors and creative teams in those productions will walk the red carpet on Sunday as nominees.

The 2016 Tony Awards celebrated 70 years of honoring the best of Broadway last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. In addition to the class of 2016 Tony Nominees, the star-studded evening featured appearances by Cate Blanchett, Claire Danes, Common, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Glenn Close, Josh Groban, Jake Gyllenhaal, Neil Patrick Harris, Sean Hayes, James Earl Jones, Daniel Dae Kim, Carole King, Diane Lane, Nathan Lane, Angela Lansbury, Lucy Liu, Bebe Neuwirth, Saoirse Ronan, Keri Russell, Meg Ryan, Barbra Streisand, Oprah Winfrey and many more. As predicted, HAMILTON was the big winner of the night, taking home a whopping eleven awards, including the coveted Best Musical.
