Suffolk County Community College theatre students recently were selected to receive many major awards at this year's Kennedy Center American College National Theatre Festival finals in Washington, D.C. Suffolk Theatre majors captured multiple awards in numerous areas of the theatrical discipline, including performance, design, technology, and management. The competition attracts students from colleges offering Associate, Bachelors in Fine Arts and Masters of Fine Arts programs across the nation.

The New York Drama Critics' Circle met on May 3, 2013, at the offices of Time Out New York magazine, to determine the winners of its 78th annual awards. The results were as follows:
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, written by Christopher Durang, today won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2012-2013 season. Matilda received the award for Best Musical. The selections were made at the 78th annual voting meeting of the organization today at the offices of Time Out New York in Manhattan.
Today, May 3rd at 12 noon, Brave New World Enterprises, LLC will present a Special Pre-Broadway Workshop Table Reading of the new musical based on Aldous Huxley's novel, BRAVE NEW WORLD. Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein's inaugural season kicks off with The Last Goodbye, a new musical that marries Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and the electrifying songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. As previously announced, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) with choreography by Sonya Tayeh ("So You Think You Can Dance"). The 2013-14 Season will also feature the World Premieres of The Few by Samuel D. Hunter and Dog and Pony, a new musical by Rick Elice and Michael Patrick Walker. Edelstein will make his Old Globe directorial debut with Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. Rounding out the season are the California Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Water by the Spoonful by Quiara Alegria Hudes, the West Coast Premiere of Bethany by Laura Marks, the J.B. Priestley classic Time and the Conways and Christopher Durang's current Broadway hit Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
Celebration Theatre has announced an added show to its celebratory 30th Anniversary Season, the Los Angeles premiere of a new play, AT THE FLASH, written by Sean Chandler, performed by David Leeper and directed by David Zak. AT THE FLASH will begin previews on Wednesday, May 15th and will open on Friday, May 17th and will perform through Sunday, May 26th at Celebration Theatre, 7051B Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood.

David Hyde Pierce and Kristine Nielsen, two of the stars of Christopher Durang's celebrated Broadway comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, lead off the two-segment episode, followed by playwright Joe Gilford and producer William Carden discussing Ensemble Studio Theatre's acclaimed off-Broadway production of FINKS, a look at the impact of the 1950s blacklist based on the experiences of Gilford's parents.
