On the northeast tip of North America, on an island called Newfoundland, there's a small town called Gander. On September 11, 2001, approximately 7,000 aircraft passengers were stranded there after the horrific attacks on New York City's World Trade Center. Come From Away tells the true stories of diverted passengers and Gander residents, resulting in a moving musical testament. Since its 2013 development at the Canadian Music Theatre Project, Come From Away soared to international acclaim, receiving multiple Olivier Awards and the 2017 Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical (awarded to Christopher Ashley). For the second time since 2019, the production's North American tour touches down at Edmonton's Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
A dynamic group of performers from several ‘Come From Away’ companies around the world will assemble for this special presentation. The concerts will welcome home Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, Petrina Bromley (from the original Broadway cast) and Clint Butler and Kate Etienne (from the Toronto cast).

The show - with book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein - 'tells the true story of 38 planes and almost 7,000 passengers from around the world that were diverted to the small community of Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001, doubling its population in an instant.' Using a documentary theater approach, Sankoff and Hein drew from interviews with the people of Gander and 'the plane people,' as they affectionately came to be called, to craft their loving, hugely funny and deeply touching show.

Without a single showtune you'll be humming long after, this national touring production of Come From Away is moving, triumphant, engaging and endearing. Too bad this stunningly staged run is so surprisingly short. La Jolla Playhouse has announced the location of its 2023 Without Walls (WOW) Festival of immersive and site-inspired work. Presented in association with the San Diego Symphony, next year’s WOW Festival will take place April 27 – 30, 2023 at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
