A new work by the world acclaimed New Adventures team, led by Matthew Bourne, is something really special. His latest, The Red Shoes, which launches the 30th anniversary celebrations of his dance company, is gorgeous to look at and mesmerizing to follow.

Yes, much of the story of Ariel, the daughter of King Triton, the master of the sea, in her search for 'a world in which I feel truly realized in my own terms,' takes place, as the songs states, 'Under the Sea,' in contrast to 'The World Above.'

Featuring the critically acclaimed work of Director Glenn Casale, this beloved tale of a young mermaid's coming-of-age adventure is told like never before. Previously announced casting includes Seattle's own Diana Huey as Ariel and Matthew Kacergis as Prince Eric, with Broadway's Jennifer Allen as Ursula andSteven Blanchard as King Triton. Melvin Abston, Connor Russell and Jamie Torcellini join the cast as Sebastian, Flounder and Scuttle. The 5th Avenue's production will go on to play engagements in cities including Orlando, Cincinnati,Atlanta and Louisville, among others.

Theatre and Dance at Wayne continues its 2016-17 season by bringing together the undergraduate and graduate acting companies on one stage at the Bonstelle Theatre to present A Christmas Carol to audiences of all ages in Detroit. Modeled after Bach's Saint Matthew Passion, The Little Match Girl Passion is a modern, minimalist retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's tragic winter fairy tale. With only matches to keep her warm, a poor young girl, afraid to go home to her abusive father, takes shelter in an alley on a cold winter night. As she strikes each match, wonderful visions appear: when the last match is struck, the girl learns that the end of her suffering - and her life - is near. Featuring four of Seattle's most critically acclaimed voices and the lyrical, hip-hop choreography of UJ Mangune, our production of David Lang's Pulitzer Prize-Winning masterpiece is an intimate, unforgettable evening of music and dance.

The beloved Hans Christian Anderson tale, The Princess and the Pea, comes to life on the South Orange Performing Arts Center stage on October 15 at 2 p.m. This fun, and funny, musical tells the story of a Princess who is introduced to the King and Queen's court just in time to vie for the Prince.  However, her arrival in a rainstorm leaves the Queen to doubt her worthiness as a match for her son.  This story of acceptance and love and, of course, a 'Pea' will prove that staying true to who you are is the key to true happiness.

An expanded 2017 Starlight Summer Broadway show series was announced last week by Starlight CEO Rich Baker at a star studded Sunday Brunch. Features included a five-show winter 'indoor' season preview, a nine-show 2017 Broadway season, and a special surprise performance by the touring stars of 'Jersey Boys.'
