Immigrant Arts Coalition Presents Immigrant Arts & Women's Empowerment Summit

The Immigrant Arts Coalition, an advocacy support group comprised of New York City-based cultural organizations, will hold its second annual summit. Entitled the Francesca Cernia Slovin Immigrant Arts & Women's Empowerment Summit, this 4-day celebration of the contributions of those from abroad whose culture has contributed to the country's vibrant mosaic is hosted by the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene and takes place from August 5th- 8th at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, Edmond J. Safra Plaza, 36 Battery Place in New York City. Free admission to the Museum of Jewish Heritage will be offered with the purchase of every ticket.

Winners for the 63rd Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced just last night at The Town Hall. In keeping with Drama Desk's mission, nominators considered shows that opened on Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway during the 2017-2018 New York theater season in the same competitive categories.

A coalition of New York City-based cultural organizations will hold a kick-off breakfast on Tuesday, February 6 to unveil an agenda to support immigrant contributions to the arts in the United States of America. The Immigrant Arts Coalition aims to recognize the important and ongoing contribution of artists and arts organizations representing America's diverse cultural mosaic.

Further evidence that Yiddish is suddenly hip in 2017 was on flashy display last night at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, as the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene welcomed a diverse and eclectic crowd to celebrate mothers and the mother tongue in grand style. Prominent producer Daryl Roth and nine other women trailblazers in the arts, sciences, business and philanthropy were honored, and a dazzling all-female cast performed one showstopper after another. The evening's mother hen was the fabulous four-time Tony nominee Tovah Feldshuh, who delighted the audience with her funny and peppery mix of wisdom and heartfelt cheerleading for the Jewish mothers attending and for the Jewish mother in all of us.

On Mother's Day the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (producers of last season's critically acclaimed and Drama Desk-nominated musical "The Golden Bride," and current producers on the upcoming Broadway stage play "Indecent") presents a unique gala concert, "Our Leading Ladies," celebrating the contributions of women in the arts, business, science, and philanthropy, at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, 566 LaGuardia Place, on Sunday, May 14, at 6:30pm.
Folksbiene's LIGHT UP THE NIGHT: a Concert of Yiddish Theater Composers

To ring in the New Year, on January 1 National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) will present 'Light Up The Night,' a concert of rediscovered and restored pre- and post-WWII music from the theatrical works of the great composers of the Golden Age of Yiddish Theater. These include Ellstein, Goldfaden, Olshanetsky, Rumshinsky and Secunda. All are leading songwriters from the era of 'The Golden Bride,' which was presented by Folksbiene Theatre in 2015 and 2016. The cast will feature performers who were acclaimed in that production, backed by a 16-piece orchestra. The production is in Yiddish with projected supertitles. The full concert will be offered twice, at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM, in Edmond J. Safra Hall at Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place.
