BWW Interview: Be My Guest As Choreographer Cheryl Baxter Opines On Choreographing The Classic Disney Musical Beauty & The Beast at Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza

Disney's Classic Film and subsequent Broadway Musical are not easy to recreate and to do justice to as well, both to the animated film version and the original stage production. Five Star Theatricals has opened this past weekend at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza/Kavli Theatre with a most lavish, charming and authentic version! I had the opportunity to speak with the Choreographer, Cheryl Baxter, of this delightful musical, and learned what it takes to be able to tackle this type of exciting but daunting project. I was not at all surprised to learn that it takes a careers'-worth of experience and dedication to be at this level.

BWW Review: SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM - A Tasty Feast for Sondheim Aficionados

Director Dan Fishbach returns to the Odyssey Theatre, following up his smartly-directed JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS from last season, with his equally smartly-directed SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM. Strong vocals notwithstanding, Fishbach has managed to also feature the comedic underlyings of this Sondheim revue, resulting in laughs at the most delicious of moments.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast/book by Linda Woolverton/music by Alan Menken; lyrics by Howard Ashman & Tim Rice/originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions/directed by Yvette Lawrence/choreographed by Cheryl Baxter/musical director: Dan Redfeld/5-Star Theatricals at the Kavli Theatre of  Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza/through July 29 only Without question, 'Tale as old as time' fits the message of Beauty and the Beast, a story of true love, the most difficult to encounter. BWW Review: EVIL DEAD, THE MUSICAL at Bootless Stage Works

One wonders what Director Rosanne DellAversano and Music Director James Fuerst talk about at home. Is dinner conversation taken up with zombies, flesh eaters, how to maximize blood flow on the brave guests who sit in the "Splatter Zone" of their present production of EVIL DEAD, THE MUSICAL?

GRT Extends Neil Simon's RUMORS At Lonny Chapman Theatre

The Group Rep's well received production of Neil Simon's classic farce RUMORS, directed by Doug Engalla, produced by Alyson York, has been extended due to critical acclaim and sold out houses. The play about five neurotic couples who gather for a dinner party celebrating one couple's 10th anniversary, goes wildly awry when guests arrive early only to discover their host has shot himself, the hostess and servants are missing, and dinner not ready. Confusions and miscommunications mount, as the evening spins off into farcical hilarity. The play, which opened June 15, will run through August 11th at the Lonny Chapman Theatre in North Hollywood, at the edge of the NoHo Arts District.
