A fresh twist on Shakespeare's classic tale of star-crossed lovers, set in pre-World War II, Berlin where Romeo is a German boy and Juliet is a Jewish girl. A relationship between these two would be highly forbidden, and the consequences too severe to imagine. The love story is as fresh and relevant today as it was more than 450 years ago.

RIDE Foundation (Robyn & Italo Dance Events), formed by Pro-Am ballroom dance partners, Robyn Shreiber and Italo Elgueta, has announced that its 2nd annual gala event, DANCE FOR FREEDOM, will benefit two of Los Angeles' leading organizations who are dedicated to fighting human trafficking - CAST (Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking), and Journey Out.  RIDE was established in 2016 to create one-of-a-kind dance events for difference-making charities, encompassing humane and ecological causes and featuring the talents of compassionate stars of the dance world. Dance For Freedom will be held at 6PM, at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, with a program featuring top dance and vocal performances produced by Tony Award-winning producer Scott Mauro. 

Art is alive and thriving in Oakland County with Meadow Brook Theatre, Michigan's largest producing professional theatre located on Oakland University's campus in Rochester. The theatre operates as a non-profit and employs a staff of over 40 local artists. The Groundlings Theatre has announced that Groundlings and SNL alumna, Julia Sweeney's brand new solo show, I, As Well, at The Gary Austin Theatre at The Groundlings School. The show opens on Sunday, September 16th, with six other scheduled performances to follow.

The MacDowell Colony has awarded fellowships to 87 artists from 19 states and six countries, from Oregon to Alabama and from Australia to Sweden. Sixty-seven are first-time Fellows. They are working in seven disciplines, and 27 percent identify as culturally diverse. The fellowships are for upcoming autumn and early winter residencies at one of the nation's leading contemporary arts organizations.

Actor Patrick Cassidy, best known for his roles in musical theatre and television, headlines Some Enchanted Evening ~ A Night of Broadway Song & Dance to benefit Inland Pacific Ballet, the professional ballet company based in the Inland Empire. This 2nd annual intimate cabaret evening features song and dance by Inland Pacific Ballet dancers and Academy students, cocktails, hor d'oeuvres, dessert, silent/live auction, and is hosted by IPB Associate Director Jonathan Sharp (The Red Shoes, Carousel, The Rocky Horror Show Live, The Dance of the Vampires, Fiddler on the Roof). Broadway veteran Cheryl Stern's SHOES AND BAGGAGE, incubated at Nancy Manocherian's The Cell, is a sharply-written musical comedy gem about a woman's lifelong obsession with shopping. The autobiographical tale by the Jonathan Larson award-winning writer (who also wrote the lyrics for the fine music by her Drama Desk nominee and Emmy winning-composer husband, Tom Kochan) is punctuated both by moments of genuine self-awareness and tragedy--from the loss of her best friend to cancer to 9/11. Under Josh Barros' direction, the result is a ferociously honest show that doubles as a memoir about a 'working [stage] actor' (not to be confused with a 'star'), whose Jewishness lovingly and palpably informs every scene.

The 2018 Stage Raw Theater Awards celebrate excellence on the Los Angeles stages in venues of 99-seats or under. This fourth annual edition included productions that opened between January 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018. Stage Raw is a community funded professional journalism website that was created in response to the decline of arts coverage in local mainstream and alternative media.The Awards ceremony was held Monday night, August 20, at Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles, hosted by Coeurage Theatre Company, and co-directed by Jer Adrianne Lelliott, Thaddeus Shafer and Lauren Ludwig. Winners notated in red below.
