BWW Review: BILOXI BLUES at New Theatre Restaurant

New Theatre and Restaurant's production of Neil Simon's 'Biloxi Blues' transports its 2019 audience back to Army boot camp during the closing days of World War II.   Simon has been mostly recognized for plays that depend on situations producing comedy and quick laughs. 'Biloxi Blues' is more serious. 

Premiere Stages At Kean University Announces 2019 Premiere Play Festival Finalists

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its four finalists for the 2019 Premiere Play Festival. Now in its 15th year, the Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware. This year's finalists were selected from a record 659 submissions, a 15% increase from the previous record set in 2018.

Meadow Brook Theatre is pleased to welcome guest director Benjamin Sterling Cannon to helm the story of the affluent, African-American LeVay family. The LeVays are gathering at their Martha's Vineyard home for the weekend, and brothers Kent and Flip have each brought their respective ladies home to meet the parents for the first time. As the two newcomers butt heads over issues of race and privilege, long-standing tensions bubble under the surface and reach a boiling point when secrets are revealed.

Academy Award nominee Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) adapts Strayed's book into an enrapturing and uplifting play that surges with emotion and is called by Variety 'a theatrical hug in turbulent times.' Tiny Beautiful Things is about reaching when you're stuck, recovering when you're broken, and finding the courage to ask the questions that are hardest to answer. Tissues recommended. Contains strong language and adult content.

The 49th Annual Blue Ribbon Children's Festival Returns To The Music Center

For three days in March 2019, nearly 18,000 elementary school children from nearly 200 schools in Los Angeles County will arrive at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to see a special performance and to dance during the 49th annual Blue Ribbon Children's Festival.

Emerging Artists' New Work Series Announces Week One Line-Up

Emerging Artists Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director Paul Adams, celebrates their 25th season by presenting their bi annual New Work Series. The series runs February 27 - March 17 at TADA Theater in the Flatiron District and features new works from a diverse group of artists. New musical, plays, solo-shows and dance pieces (in varies stages of development), will be presented.

The JW Marriott in Downtown Los Angeles is currently showcasing floral designer to the stars Pave Fleur's giant larger than life Love Box of red roses. The Love Box features the signature hearts of world-renowned artist James Goldcrown who has created his famous Lovewalls all around the globe. The giant floral arrangement is now on display in the lobby of the JW Marriott LA Live. Pave Fleur wanted to spread this message of love with their massive display because Love Is Grand.

Portland Center Stage at The Armory brings the critically acclaimed adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's Tiny Beautiful Things to debut in the author's hometown. Adapted by Nia Vardalos (writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding), co-created by Vardalos, Thomas Kail (director of Hamilton) and Marshall Heyman, and directed by Rose Riordan, Tiny Beautiful Things explores the time Cheryl Strayed spent as the anonymous advice columnist behind "Dear Sugar," and the honest, intimate connection she forged with her readers. Dana Green takes on the role of Sugar, joined by Leif Norby, Lisa Renee Pitts, and Brian Michael Smith who play the letter writers.

World Premiere of THE MOTHER OF HENRY Set in Boyle Heights

The times they are a changin'. Travel back to the working class melting pot of Boyle Heights of the 1960s with the Latino Theater Company's upcoming production, written by LTC resident playwright Evelina Fernandez and helmed by artistic director Jose Luis Valenzuela. The world premiere of The Mother of Henry runs March 23 through April 14at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. Low-priced previews begin March 15. 

MOULIN ROUGE, JAGGED LITTLE PILL & More Earn Nominations for 23rd Annual IRNE Awards

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) today announced the nominees for the 23rd Annual IRNE Awards, which honor the best of the previous year's actors, directors, choreographers, designers and companies across the full spectrum of large, mid-size and fringe theater companies. Moulin Rouge!, a new musical produced by Global Creatures, and An American in Paris, produced by the Ogunquit Playhouse, led with 12 and 11 nominations, respectively, in the Large Stage Musical Category. The Huntington Theatre led all companies with 31 nominations across seven productions, including 11 for Man in the Ring, the story of six-time world champion prizefighter Emile Griffith.
