The indomitable and generous spirit of the theatre community - those onstage, backstage and in the audience - shined brightly as the 29th annual Gypsy of the Year competition celebrated six weeks of fundraising work of 56 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Gypsy of the Year (#GypsyOfTheYear), which was held December 4 and 5, 2017, raised a record-breaking $5,609,211 for Broadway Cares. BroadwayWorld has photos from the star-studded affair below!

Broadway's brightest will celebrate six weeks of dedicated fundraising in a spectacular showcase of songs and skits when the 29th Annual Gypsy of the Year competition returns at 4:30 pm Monday, December 4, 2017, and at 2 pm Tuesday, December 5, 2017, produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Stars from Broadway's hottest shows, including Aladdin, A Bronx Tale, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton and Meteor Shower, will make special appearances at the 29th annual Gypsy of the Year competition on Monday, December 4, at 4:30 pm and Tuesday, December 5, at 2 pm.

Broadway veteran and Original Broadway Cast member of the Tony Award-winning revival of Hello, Dolly!, Robert Hartwell launches the 3rd season of The Broadway Collective a traveling, multi-disciplinary musical theatre master class.

Emily Jeanne Phillips (Elf, the Musical at Madison Square Garden) presents a new tap music video featuring John Scacchetti (Patti Lupone Gypsy, 42nd Street), Chaz Walcott (Newsies Live, So You Think You Can Dance), Patrick Ryan Heffernan (42nd Street National Tour), David Visini (Theatre Row, North Shore), Aaron Burr (Tap Dogs), Tommy Sutter(Merry-Go-Round Playhouse).

On October 2nd, exactly one year from closing, cast members from the national tour of Newsies will reunite on the stage of Feinstein's/54 Below to present the second annual The Newsboys' Variety Show.

Leg Up On Life: Showcase! benefiting The Trevor Project is hosted by Daniel Gold who wanted to create a platform for choreographers of all dance styles to get their works out to the public while raising money for a phenomenal organization. Showcase! is taking place Monday, August 28th, 2017 at Dixon Place. Performances will take place 4pm and 8pm doors opening a half hour prior.

Audiences have a final chance to 'Seize the Day!' - tickets are now available for 'Disney's Newsies: The Broadway Musical!,' playing in U.S. movie theaters for three days only on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday February 18 at 12:55 p.m. and Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. (all local times). Captured live at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre earlier this year, the event reunites original cast members Jeremy Jordan, Kara Lindsay, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, and Ben Fankhauser.

On November 6th, dozens of cast members from the national tour of Newsies will reunite on the stage of Feinstein's/54 Below with The Newsboys' Variety Show. Audiences can expect to be dazzled by a variety of musical styles, dancing, and other special talents on display.

Now IS the time to seize the day! BroadwayWorld has learned that Disney will film NEWSIES this August, at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. Returning for the filming will be original Broadway cast members Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay. The production, currently on tour plays the Pantages from Aug. 30, 2016 - Sept. 4, 2016. There is no word yet if the production is headed towards the big or small screen, or who else might be joining or re-joining the cast for the filming.

Casting has been announced for the Charlotte engagement of Disney's  NEWSIES.   The Tony® Award-winning production will begin performances at Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, August 9 for a limited engagement through Sunday, August 14. 

Broadway In Chicago is pleased to announce casting for the Chicago engagement of Disney's NEWSIES. The Tony Award-winning production will begin performances at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W Randolph) on Thursday, July 28 for a limited engagement through Sunday, August 7.

The touring cast of Newsies will perform the song 'Santa Fe' live from Santa Fe, NM on Monday, June 20. The event will be streamed to Disney's Facebook page beginning at 1 PM EST and will last approximately 20 minutes, according to Variety.

Casting has been announced for the Vancouver engagement of Disney's NEWSIES.   The Tony Award-winning production will begin performances at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Tuesday, July 5 for a limited engagement through Sunday, July 10. 

Now after more than a year, NEWSIES' North American First National Tour is nearing its conclusion, finally stopping at Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through May 29 (the musical will motor down to San Diego the following week). After seeing the original Broadway production in NYC and then seeing its Los Angeles debut at the Pantages Theatre last year, experiencing this exuberant, high-energy, smile-inducing crowd-pleaser again here in my own home turf felt like a special gift. NEWSIES is a fun, uplifting night at the theater... and continues to be in subsequent, multiple viewings. With its winning combination of incredibly acrobatic dancing, family-friendly comedy, engaging story, awesome singing, and dazzling showmanship, there is a lot to love with this show---whether you're 5 or 95. Heck, it certainly made a #Fansie out of me.
