The Producers Guild of America (PGA) hosted the 34th Annual Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, February 25th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The evening recognized influential film producers and entertainment icons with special honors including Tom Cruise with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures; Mindy Kaling with the Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television; Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy with the Milestone Award; and “Till” with the Stanley Kramer Award.

The Canadian Opera Company announced today a new mainstage commission: The Old Fools by celebrated Montreal-based composer Ana Sokolovi? and seasoned British librettist Paul Bentley. La Reine-Garcon, first announced in 2015, is moving forward as a co-commission with the Opera de Montreal; it's the first mainstage collaboration of its kind between the two major Canadian opera companies and at its helm are two exceptional Canadian artists: Julien Bilodeau as composer and Michel Marc Bouchard as librettist.

Kitchen Theatre Company Raises Over $190,000 to 'Burn the Mortgage'

Kitchen Theatre Company's Board of Directors honored retiring Artistic Director Rachel Lampert with an appropriately theatrical ceremony in which the building's mortgage was 'burned.' Alexander Neef, General Director of the Canadian Opera Company, announced today the commission of a new opera for its mainstage by one of Canada's most important composers, Ana Sokolovi?. Titled La Reine-Garçon, the libretto is by Quebec playwrightMichel Marc Bouchard and based on his play of the same name. Inspired by Queen Christina of Sweden who ruled the country in the 17th century before abdicating her throne at the age of 27, La Reine-Garçonis currently in development and is scheduled to have its world premiere in the COC's 2019/2020 season.

This time, it's no joke. Funny…Sheesh Productions presents Doubles Crossed: The Ballad of Rodrigo, an original play by Jason S. Grossman and directed by Amber Gallery. Funny...Sheesh produces original plays, variety shows and comedy showcases. They are working with Ivy Theatre Company in a space sharing partnership to promote artistic union and collaboration within the New York City independent theatre scene. The two companies are also sharing the same production team uniting their promotional efforts, as well as hosting a joint fundraiser. Doubles Crossed: The Ballad of Rodrigo is a sequel to Funny…Sheesh's play, Doubles Crossed (2012). Audience members need not have seen the first play to enjoy this neo-noir thriller.
