The Boston Conservatory is now accepting applications for the first class of its cutting-edge Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Theater and its new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Multidisciplinary Stage Management program. The B.F.A. in contemporary theater provides ensemble-based training focused on creating and developing new work for the 21st-century theater environment. With an emphasis on the artistry of stage management, as well as the highest level of hands-on training in all types of performance art at the Conservatory, the B.F.A. in multidisciplinary stage management program is in a class of its own. The first classes for both programs begin in the fall of 2015; applications are due by Dec. 1, 2014.
Love Quirks, a unique new musical by Seth Bisen-Hersh and Mark Childers about four young adults exploring various types of relationships in NYC, will be playing a limited three week run midtown at Theatre 54 (244 W 54th Street, 12 Floor) with previews beginning tonight, September 11, 2014 at 8PM. The show will have its official opening on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 8PM and will run through Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 3PM.
Now in it's sixth season, The Fire This Time Festival will welcome seven new playwrights into the family, January 19-February 8 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). Aziza Barnes (me Aunt Jemima and the nailgun, published by Button Poetry Press), Rod Gailes OBC (COLORS: Dream Of the MASTA), Julienne L. Hairston (Ababuo in Project Y's Racey Play Reading Festival), Daaimah Mubashshir (Video Clare with Manhattan Repertory Theatre), Azure D. Osborne-Lee (member of EMERGENYC and Rising Circle Theater Collective's INKtank), Larry Powell (Dreams of a Prophet) and James Anthony Tyler (Some Old Black Man starring Arthur French at La MaMa). These playwrights will present an evening of ten-minute plays, each inspired by one of Alex Harsley's original photographs. More of Harsley's pieces will be featured at the TFTT festival kick-off event this fall, in which he and the playwrights will be introduced to the Horse Trade Theater Group and 4th Street Arts Block community.

Currently appearing in a riotous production of The Pirates of Penzance at Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia, MD, Lehan was recently seen at the Kennedy Center in Camelot in Concert, at Signature Theatre in Sycamore Trees, and in numerous roles at the Keegan Theatre and Olney Theatre Center.
'If Danny Kaye had not been born,' a Hollywood writer once observed, 'no one could possibly have invented him. It would have been stretching credibility far past the breaking point'. Those words begin almost every biography of the legendary Danny Kaye and it is fitting words. Kaye may not have been as popular as Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, or may have been the person to get when Donald O'Connor wasn't available, but Kaye left a legacy on entertainment. You can narrow down to a handful of influential artists whose legacy is still being found in modern day entertainers. You can see pieces of Kaye in early Robin Williams, or Will Ferrell in his Saturday Night Live days. Kaye took the 'song and dance' man routine and went one step further - the patter song and the foppish mannerisms that made his style unique.

Written in the late 1950's in a fine post-graduate frenzy, Kopit's play was inspired as much by the European avant-garde as by the angst of the Eisenhower years. Director Tyler Herman has done a great job in his first production, creating the anarchic, bizarre feel that Kopit's play requires, with Katie Wertz's surreal set and Jacy Barber's biologically-correct costumes (for the fish and plant life) creating just the right off-kilter atmosphere.
