Brian Childers Stars in AN EVENING WITH DANNY KAYE at TACT, Now thru 8/16

By:

The American Century Theater (TACT) will welcome Helen Hayes Award-winner Brian Childers back to the stage for An Evening with Danny Kaye. This production, to be performed as part of the Robert M. McElwaine Reflections series, pays tribute to one of Broadway and Hollywood's greatest showmen - Danny Kaye. Stephen Nachamie directs and Jeff Biering is the Musical Director.

Childers performed in numerous incarnations of the story of Danny Kaye in Danny and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story, which was first performed at TACT and garnered him the Helen Hayes Award for Best Actor in a Musical and the Mary Goldwater Award. An Evening with Danny Kaye is now a touring production and has appeared throughout the U.S.

Brian has captured hearts across the nation with his critically acclaimed portrayal of Danny Kaye. Childers becomes Kaye in a way that lets a new generation discover - and an older generation re-visit - a unique performer. The Associated Press wrote: "Childers has a marvelous voice...proves himself to be a continuing major talent" and The Washington Post wrote, "Childers is nothing short of amazing in the role."

The show is a romp through the life of Danny Kaye, as Childers leads the audience in singing Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher, prances through Fine's still - fine Anatole of Paris, and drills through Tchaikovsky.

Childers has performed in many Off-Broadway and regional theatre productions. For TACT, he appeared in Detective Story, The Boys in the Band, Hollywood Pinafore, The Second Man and in The Robber Bridegroom. He played the role of Robert F. Kennedy in The Titans and performed in the new musical 90 North, both at the Kennedy Center.

Director Stephen Nachamie began working with Brian Childers on the Danny Kaye shows in 2013, and works as a director and choreographer across the country. Credits include Luck! with Faith Prince, Torch Song Trilogy with Seth Rudetsky, and Driving Miss Daisy with Larry Marshall. His production of A Chorus Line at the Olney Theatre received the 2014 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Resident Musical. Ed Moser is the Producer and Sound Designer. Lindsey E. Moore is the Stage Manager. For full crew listings, visit AmericanCentury.org.

An Evening with Danny Kaye opens tonight, July 18 and runs through Saturday, August 16, 2014, with a Pay-What-You-Can preview on Thursday, July 17 at 8:00 pm and a Pay-What-You-Can performance on Wednesday, July 23 at 8:00 pm. A talkback will follow the Thursday, July 24th performance. Regular show times are Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 pm with Saturday/Sunday matinees at 2:30 pm (no matinee Saturday, May 31). Tickets can be ordered online at AmericanCentury.org or by calling 703-998-4555.

The American Century Theater performs at Theatre Two in the Gunston Arts Center, located at 2700 South Lang Street, Arlington VA 22206.
