Shakespeare Theatre Company will once again welcome Members of Congress and distinguished Washington influencers onto its stage to perform in Will on the Hill, a lively show infused with comedic references to contemporary politics.

Mark DeGarmo Dance to Honor Deborah Jowitt with 'Educational Visonary' Lifetime Achievement Award

Mark DeGarmo Dance will honor dance writer DEBORAH JOWITT with the 2016 “Educational Visionary” Lifetime Achievement Award to celebrate her many accomplishments.  Ms. Jowitt danced with notable names such as José Limon and Anna Sokolow, choreographed works shown in venues in both the United States and overseas, published articles in The New York Times, The Village Voice and Dance Magazine, among others, and has lectured, taught and conducted workshops at universities in the U.S. and abroad.  The award is presented to “visionaries who have promoted innovation in education through the arts.” Fellow dance writer, dancer and choreographer, Gus Solomons, jr., will present Ms. Jowitt's award and comedian Nat Towsen, host of Nat Towsen's Downtown Variety Hour, will serve as Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening. New York's “Dance Party of the Year” includes hors d'oeuvres, drinks, a performance by our students, a dance lesson from our teaching artists and a silent auction featuring gift certificates, dinners, vacations, and more.

THE ARTS EFFECT has announced that its acclaimed production of SLUT The Play and its companion piece NOW THAT WE'RE MEN will extend through March 6 at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street). On Saturday, March 6, NOW THAT WE'RE MEN will have an additional performance at 1:00 PM and SLUT The Play will have an additional performance at 2:15 PM.

NOW THAT WE'RE MEN to Play Two Performances at Dixon Place

THE ARTS EFFECT and has announced the addition of two performances of the new play NOW THAT WE'RE MEN, a companion piece to the previously-scheduled production of SLUT The Play at Dixon Place (161A Chrystie Street) from January 28 through February 27. While SLUT The Play from the All-Girl Theater Company deals with rape culture through the lives of teenage girls, NOW THAT WE'RE MEN serves as a thematic prequel from the male perspective. The second play, written and directed by Katie Cappiello and developed in collaboration with 15 to 18 year-old high school students, will be performed Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 PM and Tuesday, February 9 at 7:00 PM.

On Thursday evening, The New York Women's Foundation (NYWF) held its annual Fall Gala in The Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The evening's honorees included Ambassador Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori, creators of the Tony Award-winning musical, FUN HOME, and corporate honoree Citi. TODAY's Hoda Kotb served as the evening's Mistress of Ceremony. The event raised $680,000 which will help to support NYWF's more than 70 women-led, community grantee-partner organizations. Tony Nominee Brandon Uranowitz Set for Shakespeare Theatre Company's WILL ON THE HILL Event

Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz, currently appearing in An American in Paris, joins the cast of the 2015 Will on the Hill event at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. A favorite bipartisan event of theatre and political fans alike, Will on the Hill returns to the Shakespeare Theatre Company on Monday, June 15, 2015. The cast will also feature special guest performers, STC Affiliated Artist Edward Gero and Samira Wiley, known for her role in Orange is the New Black.

The annual Will on the Hill event welcomes Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle and distinguished Washington insiders onto the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage to perform a political satire infused with Shakespearean language and references. The event pays tribute to the unique dynamic of our city and provides a wonderful way to engage new audiences. Proceeds from this event support STC's many education, artistic, and community engagement programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages. Will on the Hill will take place in Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner immediately after the performance.

APAC's Taryn Sacramone Honored Today at 2013 Top Women in Business Awards

The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) has announced that Executive Director Taryn Sacramone is being recognized for her hard work and dedication to the arts and the community. On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, Senator Michael Gianaris honored Sacramone at the New York State Senate 16th Annual Women of Distinction Ceremony. Today, May 9, 2013, 11th Annual Top Women in Business Awards event will honor Sacramone as an influential women in business whose major achievements and whose participation in many community activities throughout the years has helped the borough of Queens grow. In the midst of it all, Sacramone is producing the Olivier Award winning musical, Blood Brothers, through May 18 at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church
